Re: EZ PASS issued by NY or NJ

Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I live in JC and tavel to Staten Island daily for work. The "system" EZ Pass had in place used to be so complicated I could never figure out exactly what my charges were. It's still very complicated but they did change it. Go to the website and read up on the different "commuter plans" they offer. Now I pay for 10 trips in advance and instead of paying the $12 rate I pay $6.50 for each trip (up from $2, which is totally fair, right?). A 250% increase overnight? Why the #OOPS# not? I am charged for those trips whether or not I use them.
I recently wrote to Senator Menendez asking why it is drivers have to wait to see their monthly statements to see exactly how much we are being charged each time we pass through a toll. I believe we are entitled to see the amount posted on the electronic board under "toll paid" as we pass through. Perhaps a digital receipt; after all, consumers are entitled to a receipt for every other transaction, why not this one? Probably because if more people knew on a daily basis how badly they were being financially raped by our criminal-like, corruption-drenched government officials there may be a coup d'?tat.

Twenty-six years of the same old dog shit? 70,600 and counting views (now surpassing our departed urban legend ?the pimp?).

Over the years this has been one of the most contentious quality-of-life, and ?us VS them? issues I?ve encountered in downtown JC. Though I still have problems with a few dog owners in VVP, I must say that the vast majority obeys, not only what are the ordinances on the books and what is right for their community, but have started to challenge those that do not.

You may complain all you want and expect others to deal with your objections (e.g. the police), but until the residents of each community verbalize their outrage directly to the individuals who don?t care about others, certain individuals will continue to perpetuate this behavior.

This encompasses not only dog owners, but also those that steal flowers in our parks that have been donated by volunteers, parents who let their children destroy public property, individuals who throw trash on the ground when there is a trash can within five feet.

Minor in the grand scheme of things ? yes, but for me- makes one place livable over another, as well as giving a sense pride in the community in which we live.

See something-say something. The ?Broken Window? philosophy works.
Rant over.

I totally agree with everything in your post except perhaps "residents of each community verbalize their outrage directly to the individuals who don?t care about [each] other". Dog poop shouldn't give anyone license to "rage" against their neighbors. Give them a poop bag as others have suggested and ask them to pick it up. Shaming the offenders is likely to work better than anger or "(out)rage".

No one is "raging". We may, however, "rage" against those who believe these folks are jusitfied in walking their dogs in the vicinity of other people's homes instead of their own without picking it up. That's all.

Wise words, Poo Bronson. Wise words indeed.

Allowances for city noise does not include self-indulgent ass-bags revving the engine on their straight pipe Harleys unnecessarily. I do not complain about city noise.

self-indulgent ass-bags--now that's funny. I know how you feel. I curse them often myself. I can't and won't defend those ass-bags (please know I am not one of them). These ass-bags (I can't stop saying that) negatively affect our quality of life. Agreed!!

Hoboken has started the process and announced they are expanding bike lanes to more streets. More bike racks at the PATH too. http://hoboken411.com

Ok 1st guy, now you're talking loud. Now you're ripping on Harley riders? And the dog shit is fine? Again, you must be one of them. I ride a Harley and I agree, some are just "look at me and my loud, cool bike." Ridiculous I know. My Harley isn't a loud, earth shattering ride but I defend their right to ride one. Perhaps you need to re-evaluate whether or not city living is for you. Make allowances or move to Ohio.

One of my "hobbies" is reading on my porch. But as I read I don't like to watch rude a-holes leave piles of feces in front or back of my home. Get it? Once you do, we can end this ridiculous tit-for-tat conversation. The old guy was wrong. I let him know it, (the way everyone should) he actually agreed, and the world continues to turn. End of story.

Oh ok, sorry :). Some of these people are really letting the shit fly (pun intended). It's easy with words on a screen but if this was a public meeting they would be in the minorty and probably not so outspoken. Cowardice behavior.

Nice to know we live among scumbag-criminals. There's a special place in hell for him and people like him. Maybe the police will investigate this. I'll never understand people who do wrong and leave an electronic bread-crumb trail for investigators. Keep it coming assholes.

Yes, I did say "alley'. I happen to like the alley behind my home where I drive (into my parking spot), walk, park my Harley, fix and wash my car, and converse with my friendly neighbors. Yes, it should be feces free; I'm delighted you agree. So while there is no one yet walking their dog through my house I still like the immediate vicinity clear of feces and other unpleasantries. The fact that you could derive pleasure from a right and just individual being "clocked" by a wrong-doer tells me all I need to know about you. My guess is you are: young and disrespectful, NOT a homeowner, do NOT pay taxes, do NOT clean your own house (oh yeah, it's NOT yours), are NOT friendly with your neighbors or even care to know who they are, and most of all, one of these A-Holes who don't pick up after their dog. If you stand for all that is illegal and unjust, here's an idea: don't advertise it. Instead, take a shower, pull your pants up and put a belt on, find a clean shirt and comb your hair. Act and dress respectable and you may just get some in return.

Let's start by getting the sanitation department to care about all the garbage that misses the trucks and end up on the streets and sidewalks of JC. Why do I have to clean up after these guys? They suck!

What does that even mean? I don't have a right to stand up to people who break the law and make me a victim? "Do this to the wrong person"? Explain that please. What will he do, beat me up, breaking the law twice in one day? That's a reasonable response: sit down, and shut up while strangers defile my property I work tirelessly to pay for. Should I pay 10K in taxes to allow someone who doesn't to SHIT on my home? I guess I should've sat there and done nothing. Nobody enforces this law, obviously; sometimes it's up to the citizens to correct the actions of lawbreakers, especially when it directly affects my quality of life!! Just think, if everyone did what I did these wrong-doers may think twice before doing it again. I didn't tar and feather him, I handed him the feces of HIS animal in front of his own home. BTW his final resonse was, as I walked away: "YOU'RE RIGHT, YOU'RE RIGHT!" If it's only feces, then perhaps he could have chosen to let the dog shit in front of his own house and HE could spend the next week looking at it, stepping in it and smelling it. Actually, why leave the house, why not let the dog crap IN his house? I have to say, I really disagree with you on this. This country was founded on the average citizen taking up arms and protecting their property and rights, or did you not pay attention in history class and don't know much about the American Revolution? Do you know how ordinary farmers armed themselves with rakes and anything they could find to fight off the biggest and strongest army of the day; all for what they believed in? Or are you one these disgusting human beings with no regard for anyone else on this planet but yourself? I believe in the right to a FECES-FREE home sir, and I will communicate that to anyone who tries to change it.

Dog-owners be kind (or beware)
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Today I watched as an older man allowed his dog (on a leash) to crap in the alley behind my home. As he did, he looked around wondering if anyone was watching. When he saw me sitting on my porch he pretended to check his pockets for a plastic bag. When he was done, he kicked rocks over the waste as if that was an acceptable alternative to picking it up. It is NOT! For some reason, I let it go and didn't say anything. Ten minutes later, unable to concentrate on my book, unable to accept the audacity of this A-hole, I got up, scooped it up (with a plastic bag) and walked down Monmouth Street looking for him. I caught him walking into his home next to The Barge Inn. I politely walked over to the elderly man, handed him the bag of shit, and said, "You forgot THIS!" If you own a dog, please be respectful. I am not the only one around here tired of this disrespectful behavior. Please be kind, or beware. Next time I might feel the need to throw it at the culprit.

Are you kidding me? I'm a new homeowner on 5th street and I've never seen anything like it. This is by far the dirtiest city I've ever seen. Garbage "collection"? I think not. It's more like drop half, take half. A neighbor of mine wants to pay someone to clean our block. This a great idea except I already pay close to 10K in taxes, something just doesn't seem right here.

Dirty City
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I live downtown and as I walk along Coles or Newark I can't help but wonder if I'm the only one who thinks the streets and sidwalks are filthy. Does anyone else feel like the city needs to hire street cleaners on foot? I'm new to the area and pay a crap-load in taxes; they certainly aren't using my crap-load to clean the streets. Check out the number of disgusting cigarette butts on in front of Lucky 7. Really? That's acceptable? Not to me it's not. What do we do? (and don't say go clean it hahaha).

Re: Trusted Auto Repair?

Just can't stay away

I fixed cars for 10 years and I'm a NYS licensed inspector but have been out of the business for a while. I took my car to Sears in JC at the Newport Mall and even told them my background. Despite that they gave me list of bullshit items in need of repair and replacement for over $1600. And the sad part is the one thing I asked them to actually repair they screwed up (by leaving a strut bolt lose). This could've caused a major accident.

Listen, a friend of mine once joked and said she'd pay me $25 just to walk into a shop with her so doesn't get ripped off. That's such a great idea and I hate hearing about ppl getting robbed, so that offer stands to anyone who needs me.
