My only issue with Fulop is that he decided against running for Mayor. Maybe it's too soon, but i was hopeful.
Fulop has done a great job trying to change the way things are done here against well-entrenched, established hacks. As for Catrillo, keep in mind he was the genius that released poultry pigeons who couldn't fly at the JC 9/11 ceremony back in 2002. NYT link....

OK! This is east of the turnpike and Ferris H.S.
Can THIS be called 'downtown' and thus be taken seriously or has Varick street just become the magical barrier?

Most of Boston is real brick paving and it's beautiful. Done properly, its as good as concrete.
I'm guessing (I hope) the concrete on Newark Ave. is tinted french gray and scored to match blueston. Also, done properly, looks great. The sidewalks in VVP are done this way and when made to look like large stones, is good. Not crazy about it on the borders where they tried to make it look like small stones as that is not an accurate way that bluestone would have been done. In the end, it doesn't matter.... go up to Central Ave. All you'll see is the gum anyway.

Call it a "DWI Checkpoint" and everyone is happy. Someone should do a quick survey of how many ACLU members live in Greenville. You know, the old "put your money where your mouth" thing....

A few weeks ago, when they were doing the curbs at the west end of Columbus, (in fits and starts) near Ferris, they not only did it starting at 7am but closed the road to traffic.
Columbus is wayyyyy busier than 6th street, yet it got done during the day. This city is absurd in all ways.

That said, after 21 years here, my expectations have dropped somewhat.

Someone with the screen name "Ross-Ewage" should know sarcasm when it appears.....
That said, something seems very out of kilter when 6th street needs to be paved at 12:30 am because it is "so busy", yet Columbus Drive remains an 'off-road proving ground'.

icechute, i am up for discussing, but i want more than just annoyed people who live over bars complaining about the noise as the pro stance. Yeah, i'm sure it sucks to live above a bar, thats why i'd never move above one. Erin, It's not just about living above a bar, and yes, for anyone who does and has noise issues, that's the breaks for renting a place like that. The much bigger issue, and the one that gets talked and written about much more, are loud groups outside the bars on residential blocks at 2 AM, thumping bass that can be heard half a block away (not an exaggeration), bottles thrown on the street, drunken fights, peoples stoops and gardens used as urinals, etc. You want to have a discussion? Those are the issues.

Pretty easy prediction that the cops could pick someone up when they actually decide to show a presence. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Again, their strategy is reactive instead of proactive.
