We are currently in 2nd place behind St. Tammany in LA. As one of our areas highest volume shelters working out of a converted garage, we are in dire need of an updated facility. We are not asking for your money, just a few minutes of your time to sign up and help us make this dream a reality!

It will only take a few minutes to sign up. After that you can share photos of your pets, review pet products, make new friends, write journals, and be part of a community of awesome pet owners and volunteers.

Please help Jersey City's animal shelter, Liberty Humane Society (http://www.libertyhumane.org/) win the ZooToo shelter makeover!! If you register at this link: http://www.zootoo.com/register/referrer/croft , 100 points will go to Liberty in this contest!! Information on the contest can be found on http://www.zootoo.com/makeover/

My car was broken into on Summit Ave between Journal and McGinley Squares
Home away from home
Home away from home

They smashed the passenger window, reached in and rummaged through my nearly empty glove box (I don't keep anything in my car) and overhead sunglass storage probably looking for a GPS. I have never even had a GPS or any mounts for one. They never entered the vehicle because the locks were all down, and if they had popped the passenger lock, the really annoying and loud alarm would have gone off. Of course this took a day out of my time, a day away from work, and money I don't have to replace a very large window (VW new beetle) for someone's guess at what I may have had in my glove box. Just a warning to anyone else in my neighborhood, keep your eyes peeled. Me and my dog will be staying in the living room keeping watch for other potential victims tonight. I hope whoever did this and continues to do these disgusting acts of criminal mischief to hard working people rots in hell.

i like using delivery.com sometimes because they ask you if you want napkins/plastic utensils. i usually opt out and say no because i have tons of that stuff at thome, but i think it's a nice thing for people who actually need them.

I used to drop stuff off at Cause Center when I went to St. Doms in the 90's. I think they are closed a few days of the week. I live nearby, so I'll try to catch their hours and post them here for you guys when I'm out walking the dog tomorrow.

we had video cameras installed on the outside of my parents house in the heights after all 3 of our cars were broken and our furniture was stolen off of the porch. cars on our block still get broken into, but the red glow of the cameras seems to keep them from touching our property anymore.

negotiate with your lender asap. i used to do foreclosures for hudson county and trust me, you are not alone... the best thing you can do is get advice from a professional while you try to recover from losing your job and falling behind. check out some of the sites everyone has listed. there's a lot of good stuff in these articles.

What nerve!

I am certainly one of those people. How DARE you call me ignorant!!!

How do I know what's in your damn pitbull's head?

I prefer to cross the street to make sure I am safe.

For that, I am being called ignorant.

You, sir, are a joke.

Handle as many aggressive dogs as I have, then call me a joke, otherwise, google the drama llama. He's calling for you.

Here's a crazy "big brotherish" idea:

Create an online photo database of dogs and their owners so a victim can pick them out of a lineup. Everyone has cellcams these days, and can sneak pics while walking their own dogs. Note, I don't say who to photograph, that'll just happen naturally...

This is why it is important to have your dog up to date on shots (especially rabies!) and also to be licensed with Jersey City Animal Control.

Why don't you open your mind before you open your mouth? Come down to Liberty Humane Society this Sunday and meet my dog and some of our great Pit Bulls, ones deserving of good homes? I, along with my coworkers and most of our adopters at the shelter, take EXCELLENT care of our pit bulls. Don't buy into the stigma, not every pit is the typical thug owned nasty street dog. Re: Unleashed Pit Bull attacks jogger in Lincoln Park -- Owner leaves woman bleeding
Home away from home
Home away from home

I was attacked by a pit bull and a German shepherd when I was younger. The pit bull bit my face and the shepherd almost mauled me. Needless to say, I now own a pit bull and work at the animal shelter.

As a RESPONSIBLE pit bull owner, I always leash my dog. If need be, I can pick him up over my shoulders (all 70lbs of him) and drop him right to the ground. He's never gotten nasty with people before, but I've seen other dogs push his buttons a bit. Still, since he was adopted from the shelter, I don't know all of his limits. Even when dogs are taken in as puppies, the human will never know 100% what the dog is capable of.

When I walk my dog, I get a lot of thugs who ask me if he's a "pit bull." I'm prepared to tell them he's a shar pei/chihuahua mix next time I get asked. I also find that most people heading my way tend to cross the street. Those are ignorant folks. My dog is not trained to protect, bite, attack, or any of those things. He knows his basic sit, give paw, lay down, roll over, and stay commands, but he's more of a companion than anything. I took him to Newport Mall for pet night and he was the only Pit in attendance. He was very well behaved for Santa and got along well with all of the other dogs waiting in line.

A lot of these irresponsible owners are the reason our shelter is so full of pit bulls. People seem to want these big scary aggressive looking dogs and train them to be just that. These people are the same ones who don't want to pay the price for their actions and eventually let their dogs loose or do terrible things like throw them over the fence at the shelter. They aren't doing it for the benefit of the animal's life, but because they don't want to pay a surrender fee or be identified for any of their crimes.

Call the court first before the date on the ticket, usually that date is not the correct court date. Mine turned out to be a week later than the date on the ticket. You'll get the option of day or night court as well.

take pictures and print them out. i beat a parking ticket for an illegal handicapped spot by shop rite & bj's this way. the judge made anyone who had cameras and cell phone cameras without printed photos adjourn their date until they had the proper evidence. the judge kept some of my photos. be prepared to give up a few of them.

in the pocket behind your passenger seat. So if sh&t ever hits the fan, you can quickly grab it with your right hand.

Hope you never have to use it, but it will make you a little less nervous when strangers approach your car.

Re: incident at Dunkin Donuts
Home away from home
Home away from home

i had a friend who worked at starbucks near newport and often they would send their employees home with food and desserts. i used to drive my friend home to kearny almost every night and we'd supply the homeless people at route 7 at 440/1&9 with all of the goodies he got sent home with. most of those folks were more than appreciative of our handouts. i have no problem giving away some of my food, even with the fairly bad financial situation i am in....but money... it really depends. i haven't tried the guys by dunkin donuts or mcdonalds at grand st. with food yet... but i'm sure next time i am around and have an extra buck or two and have the time i'd be willing to offer a bite to eat or a coffee.

my dad was a jersey city cop and often would stop at diners to grab coffee to go. i remember an incident when a homeless man asked him for change for a coffee, but the diner owner wouldn't let the man inside. my dad and his partner bought the guy a coffee and buttered roll, but the man was unhappy with their kind gesture. it's a shame. there are people out there who care, who will give the shirt off of their back for a good cause, and who want to feed the hungry. it's disheartening at best when something like that happens.

Re: incident at Dunkin Donuts

I use that Dunkin Donuts drive thru almost daily and occasionally the McDonalds drive thru. I only carry a debit card to work, so unfortunately these are my breakfast options before heading over to Liberty Humane Society. Every single time, there is a guy standing just past the drive thru window at Mcdonalds, watching you take your food, begging for your change. Every time, I tell him, no sorry, I only have a debit card, then he tells me "God bless you." It's borderline as bad as White Castle on JFK used to be when you'd drive up to the order screen and have 5 drunken bums holding cups and begging for change, but would refuse the food when you'd drive back around to give them a burger or some fries. Wow.

When my dog is in the car, NOBODY comes up to my window. He's a Pit bull. In fact, when I walk him, nobody comes near me and people cross the street. I take him to that Dunkin Donuts sometimes when I bring him to work with me and I never have any problems other than him squealing while I'm trying to place my order in the drive thru.

I was walking him by McGinley square and some panhandler came up to me asking for change and then asking me stupid and inappropriate questions. Needless to say, the dog barked and barked and the man had no choice but to walk away from me...and I mean far away.

The best idea for this problem (violent crime in general), although it might take awhile to see the efforts is a program to offer compensation for men and women to get vasectomies and hysteroctomies.

great idea! i loved the skate and bike parks in bayonne when i drove a minivan and could throw the bike in the back of the van. this will also encourage kids who aren't into team sports to have something fun to do after school and on the weekends. as a kid i skated at pershing field ice rink daily in the winter, and rollerbladed and skateboarded outside of the rink in the summer. i met a lot of great skaters and overall good kids who practiced daily and always had a good time.
