Who else but a hipster doofus calls it "American Football" when we're in America?

In addition to all the places previously listed, there is:
White Star (2 of them)
Hamilton Inn
Ninth and Coles
Keyhole
Healy's
Greene Hook
Light Horse
Markers
Chile's
Park and Ninth
Lisbon Two

As someone mentioned upthread, how many places can you name where you *can't* watch Giants games?

Robin.

Damn. I like that place. I'll say P&K Fruit (Food?) Market on Newark/Bay is pretty good and not far.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what should or shouldn't replace it?

Many years ago, I passed by the construction of Liberty Harbor North, there was protest outside the construction with an inflated rat in front. So I asked the protesters what was the concerned. The guy pointed to a man in a lift who was not wearing a harness. These were union workers who were protesting but they complained developers hire basically undocumented workers who do not know the law and take risks. The protester said they planned on notifying OSHA. I later spoke before the city council about workers in lifts without harness and was told this is not the city's concern, this is the state's concern. It is a shame someone dies because of who is in charge.

Thanks, Yvonne. Once again, you missed the point and turned this into something political.

Since I already took the Yvonne bait, a few questions:

1. what are "basically undocumented workers"

2. these B.U.W.s "don't know the law and take risks" - does being ignorant of laws (aside from the laws of gravity) have anything to do with risk taking?

3. these protester friends of yours were so concerned about the B.U.W.s not knowing their safety harness rights that they went out and got a giant inflatable rat and then organized a protest but only "planned on notifying OSHA"? sounds like they must have been really concerned about safety...

I prefer NJ(.)com version of this journalistic masterpiece where we get to hear about the plight of Cara Goldman (and she is NOT happy!)

"It's taking a long time," Goldman, 26, said this morning "It starts very early in the morning."

But wait, it gets worse for Cara...

Goldman said she has received four parking tickets in the last few months, at $50 a pop.

Rut Roh, Cara. Something seems to be amiss here since I haven't gotten a single parking ticket, even though I live/park on the same block...I wonder why that could be...

Oh yeah, that's right. I move my car in the morning.

Whatever you do, be careful with those bins by Best Buy on Marin.

These ladies come out of their cars and grab the clothes from you as you're putting them into the bins.

JCPD occasionally gets calls about it, but they punt to PAPD, who then goes all PAPD on them (i.e., does nothing).

Thankfully most of our elected officials and the vast majority of new residents are smarter than fat slobs like Yvonne. They do desire all the things she's against, like reduced dependence on cars, vibrant street life and walkable communities with fun things to do. Demographics and market forces are more powerful than she is, as are the realities of building a sustainable and economically competitive city in the 21st century.

She's already lost her war, she's just too dumb and too self-righteous to realize it.

I hope Candice sees this and realizes most of us are on her side.

Why would you speak to Yvonne in that way ? If you have something to say go to a meeting and kiss Ms. Candice's ass if you wish. Why don't you put up your photo so we can judge you on your looks, better yet, a picture of your Mother so we can describe her in the same manner in which you did. Would that offend you ? Would you like that ?

Fulop is a tax paying resident of New Jersey. Is he not allowed to vocalize what a lot of other residents agree with?

He seems to be perfectly capable of multitasking. I'm not sure why this would be such a burden.

He's also the Mayor of Jersey City and I for one don't like my Mayor picking a political battle with the gov. Focus on the prize: "Making Jersey City the best mid-sized city in America." This is an obvious ploy relating to his run for governor. He'll lose my vote.

Re: Builders in Downtown Jersey City

Just can't stay away

Without meaning to hijack this thread, I have a somewhat related question regarding builders in JC:

The basement of my 3-unit condo has started emitting a bad, musty smell that seeps to my unit (3rd floor) possibly through the wall cavity next to an exposed brick wall. The smell is strongest in the gap between the drywall and the masonry.

Obviously, the issue of the smell in the basement needs to be addressed (which seems to come from water in the neighbor's yard seeping into the foundation), but so does the issue of vapors emanating from the basement into my unit.

Question is who you would even call for something like this. Do you need someone who specializes in masonry, for example, or would a general contractor do?

The place is brand new, so the builder is still in the area, but completely useless.

I did hear that there were not enough cars to go around.

Scary if true about not enough cars to go around. The response on 4th and Manila seemed to be pretty quick since the yo's were barely a block from the scene when PD showed up (though, this is only mere blocks from the East District). I could hear a few laughing with each other on the way back about how its "different for [kids] these days" and you "can't get away with the same sh**," but I'm only assuming they were talking about the same incident.

I went out to Manila after hearing the first sirens and saw a half-dozen little yo's in red scurrying away.

I didn't hear anything, but had the TV on, so maybe it was low caliber.

Also, even if your plans are allowed from a construction/zoning perspective, you'll be subject to any restrictive covenants on title. You should make sure your lawyer is doing a very thorough review before going hard on the contract.
