Re: New York Bagel on Newark Avenue
Home away from home
Home away from home

Went today. It was underwhelming...the toaster blackened my bagel. So they re-did it and said that going through the toaster twice makes the bagel black. They threw a new one in and it was barely toasted. I don't get it. The service was a bit off their game. Long story, don't want to bore with the details. Maybe the bagel I get in NYC nice and toasted to perfection has spoiled me. I have to give the nod to Wonder Bagels.

To Kiro: There are fields that the kids and adults play, Lincoln Park, Caven Point, Grand Street and indoor at TSLC on 9th Street. Hoboken and Weehawken too!! However, it is not enough because there is such a demand for use of these fields. You are at the mercy of the softball/baseball leagues at Lincoln Park.

To 1stSTguy: You have no clue what you are writing about, the interest of soccer in Hudson County is huge, go to Weehawken any weekend, go to Grand Street on Saturdays and Sundays and you will see leagues and pickup games with all type of teams ranging from eastern euro to central and south american and americans who grew up playing soccer, stopped, and then regained their love for the sport.
I can't blame you for assuming soccers unpopularity, but the need for more fields (on the west side near the Pulaski Skyway) is in extreme demand.

Mathias

I am a dog lover, own 1 dog, he's 14.

With that said, do you know Gary. I have met him before. Have you seen his dogs. I have. Are they dangerous, damn right. These dogs are just in the wrong hands. When there are pit bulls, unchained, on the loose and in a residential area, cops are trained to shoot first, ask questions later. Because if the owner is not cooperating and a human is bit or worst, it would be the cops who did not protect the human from an animal. It is an animal. Are there bad cops, yes. But with firsthand knowledge, I trust it was not the cops fault in this case. Those dogs are trained to be aggressive. Are all pitbulls TRAINED to be aggressive, no, is Gary's, YES. Anyway, who owns 6 pitbulls??? Take a guess Mathias!

This summer, I got my dog his shots on MLK for free. It is something they do annually i guess. Well, when I read this article and saw Gary's photos, I sure did remember him and his dogs. I have photos of him where he had to isolate his 2 dogs because they were..well, lets put it this way, they were intimidating and they went wild when another dog got within short distance. And has any1 ever seen a pitbull on the loose. I have. Those suckers have super freakish speed and can jump like spiderman. It only takes a split second b4 they are on top of you.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy says he believes the show is an opportunity to promote the city.

Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national ... 1zltQ3c0ArN#ixzz1lteMwefV

More evidence (as if there has not been enough already) that Mr. Healy is clueless, idealess, and has no inkling of what he is doing as mayor. I am certain he has not even watched more than 3 minutes of 'Jersey Shore'. If he did, he would not believe a sorry ass show like this would be an opportunity to promote Jersey City, except in a negative light. Good on Ya Healy.

Linkin

Do you have to clean the bumper bully ('bb') often, if yes, how often?

Does the bb itself cause any scratches or abrasions to the bumper (by rubbing etc) just by being attached?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Bumper Bully

Well, to my surprise, I have learned several things by posting a simple question to the people of Jersey City who own bumper bullies and badgers and the sort.

1. People like catdog (nice name) and ianmac and brewster HATE these products.

2. People like catdog (nice name) and ianmac and brewster HATE/DESPISE the people who own these products.

Please explain why you replied to the post if you do not own a bumper bully or badger. I know, first amendment. And I know, you THINK AND BELIEVE people out there in cyberspace REALLY CARE about your opinions about the product and the people who own the product, even though you don't own one, but felt so compelled to reply for the good of the community. Outstanding work. I applaud your good service to the people of this fine city.

Thanks Pink. All answers from people who actually own these things is extremely appreciated.

And I guess the comment on white shoes is from...someone who has white shoes, why else would you comment on something you do not have any experience with, so you must have white shoes and they must have been dirtied up.

Re: Bumper Bully

brewster and ianmac, my post was for people who actually own these bumper bully or badger things, not for social commentary if I am from some place here or someplace there or if a hypothetical about if one car has one and the other does not, guess who will get hit, this is why this jclist can be a drag, because of people like you who feel better about themselves putting down the poster. Now, please post about the subject would be the polite and proper thing to do on a forum. It would be appreciated if the moderator would moderate too, because I do not see where these two replies were constructive to the content of the post.

I thank the other posters/replies and further constructive input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hate this towing company. Know someone (women) who was there just as they were about to lift, and they said, too late and wouldn't even clarify how to pay right there at a discount, instead was rude and kept lifting. Took advantage of the person. And based on this article, what goes around comes around, pay up!

Re: Noise from Convalescent Center on Manila n 8th St

There was never any noise until 3 months or so ago, maybe a bit longer. As soon as those trucks came around, the noise started. It is not always on, but when it is, sounds like a spaceship has landed, that HUMMING. I would say it is on at least 16 of the 24 hours in a day! And yes, it is located on the 8th Street side facing St. Anthony HS.

Someone, is there some NUISANCE law here.

When walking by the tall convalescent center on Manila between Pavonia and 8th Street (across from the Hudson Savings Bank), there is an annoying HUMMING noise. I see an air condition repair truck there sometimes, but his HUMMING noise continues, so annoying.

Who can this be reported to as a nuisance????

Re: Do we need a strong republican mayor?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Do we need a strong republican mayor to tackle crime in jersey city? Just like NYC had Rudy Guiliani. What are your thoughts on this?

This is a joke, right, correct???

For some weird reason, people with little information believe that Republican = Strong.

Was Bush strong? He had 9-11 under his watch, lied about Iraq, sent lower and middle class kids there to get their limbs blown off, for....OIL. Did he catch OBL? Nope. What about New Orleans, he was tough there too, let that town get destroyed, why, because most of the folks who were going to get wiped out were..fill in the blanks.

Was Rudy really tough on crime. By 1994, the economy began to rocket, housing prices went up in NYC, gentrification boomed, and the city was transforming. Rudy was tough on nightlife, boring the city to death while running a quasi police state. The late 90's brought Disneyfication and the result was lower crime because more people were better educated with better jobs.

Now, look at our Democratic President, Barack Obama. In his 3 years as President, has there been any terrorist attack on US soil, nope. Did he catch OBL? Yep. And on top of that, he got Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen. In fact, he's caught more Taliban leaders in 1 month than Bush and Cheney did in 6 years, without waterboarding or torture, and closing Gitmo too, as he promised.

So why do you need either a Republican or Democrat to tackle crime. It's not the party, it's the man, Jersey City needs a new man or woman in charge to tackle crime, not a Republican or Democrat.

What's going on? Easy, if you have ever been to those three areas, and I have, there is no surprises to this english industrialist that someone got shot. The tonnelle might be the most surprising of all, since the guy was 52 years old. But since the DD is next to the Ringside Lounge, ughghh..gotta be a connection!

Re: wtf - JCPD - insane ticket

Home away from home

LOL. First of all, it should be 500 dollars. It is a moving violation and complete disregard of the stop sign. By "rolling" through, you are breaching safety. I live right in that area and everyday the police are having a ball pulling cars over left and right, I love it. I have seen or known of at least 25 accidents over the past 5 years. Just the other night, at 1:30 AM two cars blasted into each other, one car then deflected into a one way sign knocking it over. Guess what, it was because a car rolled on through without stopping. The City has been adding more stop signs in that Hamilton Park area on Erie, Manila etc and should add another at 8th and Manila because people gun it to make that light at 6th Street.

You are warned, don't speed or roll through stop signs going down Manila, you will be caught. Both marked and unmarked cars are waiting ( :

Burke's is classic. I have been in there a few times after 10 PM to get wine or 6 pack, or even a few 24 ounce becks bottles...The guy (guess he is the owner) is very nice and there is a TV in the corner. Now, the clientele can be really really drunk people or hoods, depends on the night. Once I saw two guys with 1 bottle of vodka and a 2L bottle of coke chugging away their sorrows.

Cherry Lounge, Brenda's Place, Latin Lounge, Ringside, BG's Tavern, Candle Lit Lounge, Wannamaker 500, or Guillo's??

BTW: A beer garden with plastic steins, LAME!

Tommy is right....minding your own business doesn't mean other people in the establishment will mind theirs.

I beg anyone to go into BG's Tavern at midnight on a Saturday night, begging here.

I will go into almost every establishment on that list, but BG's is a whole different ballgame.

Keyhole on 242 Bay at corner of Erie? That place is making a fortune! He buys cases of beer and sells at six times value, maybe more. And the place is like family for the puerto rican community downtown, usually older types, harmless in my opinion, chatting away, listening to music. Why would he sell? Take the money and do what, nothing and die. Some people just aren't programmed that way. I would not want that place to be turned into some half ass coffee and ham and cheese sandwich place. Rolon's Keyhole should be landmarked.
