Totally agree. JC is a multi-ethnic city, why are we in such a rush to turn it into Paramus? As someone noted below, the Bolivian parade is flat-out amazing. A little noise for a few hours is a small price to pay.

Either you guys aren't reading what's actually being proposed, or you don't care.

What is happening:

Purely changing the end time for festivals on weekends and weekdays:
Closing hour of permitted festivals changed from 12am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

Closing hour of permitted festivals changed from 11pm to 8pm on Sunday through Thursday

What is NOT happening:

- No one is limiting the number of festivals
- No one is limiting the volume of festivals
- No one is eroding the multi-cultural fabric of JC

So let's just all relax here. Considering these things can begin by noon (correct me if I am wrong), and most trail off around 8/9 on weekends, this is not a big deal at all. Let's just relax and tone down the rhetoric a little.

It's simply a poorly thought-out ordinance, irrespective of it's laudable goals to solve a local issue. What next? A Morris Canal park dog poop ordinance? A smoking ban at bus stops on Montgomery?

Come up with ordinances that work city-wide. They may be tougher to formulate, but JC residents deserve that consistency.

My understanding is that Exchange Place is being targeted for this because a significant number of people in surrounding residences complained about it. Why enact an ordinance city-wide for a problem that is very acute and localized?

DTJC, just to clarify, the poop ordinance is already in existence, city wide as is the leash laws. Significantly increased enforcement is next on the agenda. Since dog owners refuse to regulate themselves, well, the city is just going to have to help out a little in the reeducation on this matter. And they will.

The excuse of "sorry officer I didn't know" isn't going to cut it either.

No, but I am a member of one. My focus for this is citywide, however, with an emphasis on the parks. It will be a coordinated push with animal control and JCPD.

It's pretty simple Pebs. If you're claiming you're supposed to get insurance money for necessary repairs on your house (let's say, roof flew off), then you go and buy a brand new car...it doesn't exactly make you look smart. I'm not expecting you to agree with this because it's a strawman or something, but it's a valid complaint.

Because quite honestly, no one is just hanging out in Morris Canal park in 10 degree weather while it's covered in snow, so it's not as contentious in the winter. That, and I've been busy with other things and missed the last few neighborhood association meetings because of work.

But if you want to push for off leash hours, great. Join the NA, make your suggestions known and work out a plan for that. Although for something like, i think you'll need to make suggestions at the city council meeting as it's a city wide law. As of now, we're just focused on enforcing existing laws as is because there's been more than enough support to do so.

mdips wrote:
I was always curious about that. If this is such an important issue why are they waiting until after the winter? It happens every year that during the summer months someone stirs up a whole lot of rhetoric while non-dog owners actually use the park. But once it gets cold the park essentially empties except for dog owners. Why not at least make it legal from oct-april like some of the jersey beaches.

We are going to communicate to other neighborhood associations about this, but the best thing you can do is join HP's neighborhood association and get involved.

Our efforts are being coordinated with Candice as well.

But it's not empty rhetoric. At the neighborhood association level, in Paulus Hook in particular, this issue is being addressed. As I mentioned way before, nothing will happen right now, but come Spring time you will definitely see increased enforcement.

Towards the fall, Animal Control began beefing up their presence in the parks to warn dog owners. At Morris Canal, they were there almost daily, to educate, not ticket. But this year, that will change dramatically.

Decent people can do like I did in starting threads like this to arrive at a reasonable solution. That solution is having more enforcement from animal control on the existing laws which require leashes and cleaning up after your dog.

Enough of the "but my dog is good" excuses. The story below is precisely what leash laws are trying to prevent.

I thank User for posting this story, as sad as it is.

Awful. Stupid people. Your dogs deserve better.

Sadly, people can own dogs or have babies and there is almost nothing that decent people can do till it's too late.

It's not better. Canada developed medical tourism years ago due to very long waiting times for certain procedures. When I lived in VT, the private clinics near the border in Burlington had a majority of their patients from places like Montreal.

There was even cases of years back of people going to vets offices to get MRI work done because the wait times were so long. A dog in Canada got faster treatment.

Right wing "public policy" groups want to get rid of national healthcare and have "research" to prove why it's bad? Color me shocked!

Opposition to abortion has been a routine part of the GOP platform for years. Republicans elected to office are all but required to be pro-life.

It seems to me that the moderate, pro-choice Republicans are leaving the party, and becoming Republican-leaning independents.

Abortion opponents are doing everything they can to outlaw it. States like Texas are passing laws with the intentional purpose of making abortion unavailable -- e.g. http://www.theatlantic.com/health/arc ... abortion-in-texas/283045/

I think you were shooting for hypocrisy, but nice try. I defend my own beliefs, I don't put my neck out for any politician. I haven't really spent much energy defending Christie. My position for the most part has been: why are you all speculating about things for which you have no proof? As of yet, Christie hasn't been proved to be directly responsible for anything. I also said if/when he is, I'll be right there with you saying resign. It would be a MIRACLE if any of the lefty douchbags on here ever took a moderate stance on anything. I'm not holding my breath.

So, nice try Pebs, but...no.

Also, it's the folks like atsushi who are really sad. They defend these politicians (or likewise, attack the other side) much like people who speak about their favorite sports teams as "WE won the game" it's pretty funny.

No proof/source/example/quote is good enough for Pebble without being called strawman/empirical/blah blah and Monroe does tend to tow party lines a little too closely. Most of the other commentators are just flat out morons (atsushi, etc.).
