none of you are hipsters, you're old coots.

don't you know hipsters now fashion themselves after 1970s lumberjacks. as for most of my friends who have always worn glasses (BECAUSE THEY"RE BLIND) you're safe to wear them again w/out fear of retribution from the likes of brian_em and his average joe posse.

now lets get back to playing kickball, as this has a striking resemblance to the bs i used to hear during recess. right before i got hit in the head for being a band nerd.

Just wanted to bring this up again.

We decided to go ahead and have platinum do the crown molding, but after recontacting them, we never heard back. i guess our job was just too small.

so anyway, anyone else have a good recommendation for a carpenter to do crown molding??

thanks

AMEN Bunny

most of the people bitching about yuppies are yuppies themselves. go ahead, start responding back about how your father helped build the pulaski skyway and your mom makes homemade mozzarella for the corner store. whatever, you're on this site, chances are you're a yuppie.

my favorite was the graffiti you see coming off the elevator that used to have 3 skulls that said "die yuppies", some witty youngin changed that to "diet yuppies" thank god starubucks now offers the frappucinis in "lite"varieties.

for some delicious, cheap, completely filling and authentic tacos, i have the place. Corner of New York Ave & Congress in the heights. My guy sets up shop almost daily and parks his cart in front of Lee's Liquors. Seriously, this is the best stuff i've had in years. And the guy? sweet as hell, waves hello to me every night on my walk home. I'm always a little cautious of carts, but now that i've had it twice i'm a believer and a regular

Re: General Questions About the Heights

Home away from home

i actually know a couple people that live right there. they've never said a bad thing, and they really like it. 2 were from hoboken, one from downtown. i think its a pretty decent block.

whatever it used to be back in its heyday (will that EVER die- things change people, it happens EVERYWHERE not just the damn heights), i have to say its pretty damn good now, but what do i know. i just love my block and know most of the people on it, well enough to say hi and have a great day. thats more than i've had in any neighborhood i've lived in in the past 15 years....

welcome!

seriously, what is the point of these posts?

a junkie high on heroin probably walked into a stolen trash can and fell down.

a maniac decides to beat up a couple people.

a kid waves around a sword, no one hurt.

sounds like a real crime wave to me, hurry up people, move downtown!!! run run!!!

give me a break.

another easy way is to call up your mortgage company. mine told me all the info on a recorded message. they should have also sent you a tax form that says total paid for the year. but i'm sure if you have a 1800 number for them, you could get it easily over the phone.

justjoe, great to hear someone can come out ahead. but i think the crucial difference is the times. it just seems as there are NO hardworking parents raising these people. There are no values being instilled. when i say "these people" i mean the ones causing the problems, not all the residents.
I see it on a daily basis, mothers bitching out their kids, littering in front of their kids, dealing drugs in front of their kids. I've said it till i'm blue in the face, blame the parents.
And i'm sure some will say "but he's 25". doesn't matter, if he was raised like sh*t, he's not going to automatically turn into a prince at 18. Sure you can't go after parents when they're adults, but i bet if you fined them the first time junior got into trouble, that may be motivation to set him right. if only to protect their own pockets.

ENOUGH!!! i'm am so sick of this. We need an outside accountant to come into this city and see where the already high taxes we pay are going. Since buying at the end of 2005 we're now paying 250 more a MONTH in taxes.

its time to clean house everywhere in this damn town

Re: Homicide investigation in the Heights
Home away from home
Home away from home

Got to love all this back and forth of the Heights. one makes it seem like you'll get stabbed in the neck if you walk to the corner store. the only thing that happens to me when i do that is a nice friendly how you doing to my local hotdog guy.

the heights is a big place people. like anywhere else, there's good parts and bad (which has been said to death on this board). sorry for those who lived here in the glory days. nothing stays the same, but in my short time of living up here i HAVE noticied a BIG change on my little street. Its not the whole heights, but its definately happening on my block. You can't lump the whole town into 1 doomsday prediction. You want to make a difference? step up, call the cops (they used to be on my speedial, but luckily haven't had to use it in about a year). go to neighborhood meetings. i went, signed a petition about the local drug dealer house, which a few months later was put up for sale. (hint: best way to get these fools out is for zoning violations, b/c the cops can't really do a damn thing unless some moron walks out to their patrol car and offers them coke)
you're responsible for your own neighborhood, b/c we all know what most politicians are worth.

i can't really speak about the other areas, just as some of you can't speak about my little area. stop lumping it all together, shit happens everywhere, doesn't mean its the wild west up the hill.

Re: Cell phone law taking effect for NJ drivers
Home away from home
Home away from home

i'm sure i'll get flack for saying this, but talking on a phone period should be outlawed while driving.

Its not the fact that you don't have both hands on the wheel, b/c frankly who even drives like that past the 10 & 2 road test? Its about not having all your concentration focussed on driving.

Yes, there's other things that distract drivers, but 9 times out of 10 when i have some moron in front of me on the turnpike going 80 then dropping down to 60 then back to 80 and so on, when i finally pass them, they're on the damn phone.

Re: Contractor to do work on doors

Home away from home

hey everyone,

just a quick question. we called Platinum and got a quote for some crown molding in our living room and dining room. The guy was great, really nice and professional, but i was a bit shocked at the cost quoted. The total was 2 grand for 2 rooms of crown molding (4 1/2 inch roughly) The total legth is about 60 feet per room.
We may get a 2nd quote, but we did like the guy and from horror stories i've heard, i'd rather go w/ someone w/ good recommendations, but it just seems so high.

anybody have this done and have ideas of costs?

thanks!

so we can now get verizon in the heights, and i think we're switching. has anyone done it? you get a free tv apparently if you do it b/4 the end of the week. that still shocks me, anyone do it and get it. its not some read between the lines thing is it?

are there really better and more HD channels. i'm always fearful of believing what i read, and then when you sign up you hear "oh thats only for the $99 package, if you want that, its an extra $50 a month.

any insight would be appreciated!

$100 bucks a qtr i would welcome. after our first full year of taxes our escrow fell short, and we paid 1200 more.

since we've bought, our monthly taxes have increased close to $150 a MONTH. we pay essex county taxes for the heights.

Mr. Healy is welcome to come to our house himself ( we stock a full bar) and try and stick a needle in my arm. they can't bleed me anymore dry than they already have.
