The B&N in Hoboken closed? When? Thought they'd renovated just a little while ago to include that cafe area.

Regarding what would be a good replacement for the VIP, I'd want either a) another diner b) some quality restaurant, that area could sure use one or c) one of the upper end fast food chains as mentioned above. Chipotle or Boston Market would be just fine with me.

Pretty bad. Shows how hard it is to be creative when you've had a lot of success and all the money you'd ever need.

Of all the individuals and departments to rail against, the fire department seems like one of the last to go after. You know, since they actually do risk their lives every now and then.

Re: Teppan Bar and Grill
Home away from home
Home away from home

Ate there tonight with my dad. Strange place. The bar/lounge/dining area has some pretty bad acoustics, as just four people having a standard good time at the bar was heard throughout the dining area. The KTU dance music is also somewhat off-putting for diners who want to simply enjoy food and are paying a little bit extra for a "nicer" place. Perhaps once the upstairs is open, there'll be a quieter place for people to enjoy a more peaceful meal.

That aside, the food was pretty decent. My dad had the shrimp teryaki and a white wine and I had the miso skirt steak and a 2pc of shrimp sushi with some house sake. My dad really liked his, the sauce wasn't too sweet like a lot of teryaki can be. My steak was a bit overcooked (I asked for medium, got medium-well) but decent. Portions on both dishes were large. One interesting non-Japanese thing they do is mashed potatoes. Both of us got a serving, which is kind of weird for teryaki. Between that, the white rice and some very crispy fried noodle, there's a lot of starch on the plate.

Service there was excellent. I didn't get more than a couple of sips deep on my water until someone showed up to refill it. This happened at least five times. Did help that we were there a bit early - we got there at 6ish so there weren't too many other diners, but still much better than most.

i don't know where in KC you have had BBQ, but the meat is never slathered with sauce, the sauce is on the side so you can taste the meat. it is like that everywhere.

Yea... where was the sauce on the side? I didn't get any in my bags and didn't see any containers in the store.

also, the shish kabobs (which are clearly on the filipino menu)

What menu! :D

never claimed to be smoked, nor kansas city-style.

Never said they were. They were merely overcooked, or from a tough cut of meat.

I'll also add that my roommate who is from Kansas City said "It was ok, but certainly not like any BBQ I've ever had, back home in KC or elsewhere." Personally, I think that calling it KC Style BBQ is disingenuous, since it is anything but. KC style has lots of sauce on it and as I noted, this was very dry.

meh. Got the pulled pork platter with the sweet potatoes and corn bread. Color me nonplussed. The cornbread was by far the best thing.

Pulled pork was good, but kind of dry and after biting a whole peppercorn, I gingerly had to work my way around half a dozen others. The spicy sweet potato mash was pretty bland and didn't have much sweet or spicy flavor to it. The beef kabobs I had were decent, but tough, as if they were overcooked. I also wouldn't have known about them had someone in front of me got some and said something, since they weren't on the menu.

My roommate had the brisket, and basically had the same notion - OK, but dry. His brisket looked like bacon and after looking at it for a sec, just started eating it like jerky. Cleanest. BBQ. Evar.

I'm willing to give the place another try in a few weeks when they've worked their kinks out perhaps, but as of right now, I'll give it a pass.

Plenty of the dollar vans are legal. And from personal experience, having taken them hundreds of times throughout the years and never having been in an accident, I have no qualms about their safety.

As a person who lost relatives in the holocaust, I would feel the same way if someone put up a statue of a prisoner in a concentration camp being bayonetted in the back. There are plenty of ways to memorialize that event in history without an ugly statue. In fact, why not use this as a catalyst to start a museum for this similar to the various holocaust museums around the world? -1 out of place statue, +1 museum.... creates jobs, cultural interest, etc.

I wish you could tell how you feel to my relatives, but they're dead - died for no reason by people who are/were as ignorant as you seem to be. I'm horrified at your thoughts. What is next, holocaust memorials?

I'd tell them that they deserve a better memorial than that lone, ugly statue.

I say this every time this thread comes up.

Long time JC resident. Fairly ugly statue that is out of place and was erected to get votes. Would love to see it moved to somewhere more appropriate, like Poland, or at least not the center of the downtown district.

There are 235,000+ long time residents who don't want this statue. Keep the 2,000 hipsters who want to keep this statue in place from taking over this town. Thank you.

OK, here's a map from where they go from Newport up towards North Bergen, Union City, Edgewater, etc.

From Newport down Marin to Newark.
Left on Pavonia just before you hit Dickinson H.S. up towards Journal Sq.
Across Summit and back down Newark to Dickinson, then up north along Palisade.

This just upset me.... I dont even know how they can say that it would be impossible to get a headliner this late. Of course this is my opinion but who cares whos headlining? We go for all the bands, to hear new music and have a good time. Get some local bands to headline. Target the Jersey bands that made it big. Gaslight Anthem? Bouncing Souls? MCR? What about the local New york bands? Matt and Kim, MGMT. What bands woldnt want to play around here, if not for new Jersey, deffinately for NYC!

Headliners. Bands people know about. Bands that have sold perhaps worldwide or certainly at least gone platinum in the U.S. None of those artists you named come even close to that, aside from mgmt, which at least most people have heard about.
