Thanks for the info and recommendations. I ended up googling him and saw him yesterday. I'm very pleased with Dr. Del Monte and nurse Danny. Both were very professional, helpful, and patient with all my questions.

Yeah, great place to have drinks outside...A few weeks ago, my wife and I were walking by and some drunk ass was verbally harrassing us from one of the outside tables...That doesn't happen at any other bar with outdoor seating in Jersey City...Classy patrons at this place.

hey maybe after the developers get their sweeter renegotiated abatement deal, the people who've already bought at canco at the higher original prices can renegotiate a new lower purchase price with the developer - yeah that's it...

maybe they can hold those negotiations at the same time, even!

Location, location, location. Canco doesn't have it and given the crappy real estate market, the developer probably needs to re-adjust their prices accordingly. I wonder if recent buyers there have had a decent range in negotiating prices.

Abbey's has great outdoor seating and the drinks are pretty inexpensive. I was there wednesday night sitting outside and everyone was pretty relaxed just enjoying the great weather. Not that it's my favorite bar in the world, but I definitely enjoy going there. I've been there many times and have never had (or seen) a problem. It's always fairly relaxed.

what happened last night? I live in the area and didn't see/hear anything.

Although, I remember a few months back being woken up by someone smashing another person's head into the hood of a truck out front of Abbey's.

Delays and detours planned for Skyway traffic

by Journal staff
Thursday June 12, 2008, 2:44 PM

More repairs are on the way for the Pulaski Skyway, and that means commuters are facing more delays and detours.

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that the Skyway's southbound lanes from the Tonnele Circle to the Broadway on-ramp will be closed tonight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Monday through Thursday, the DOT will temporarily close the southbound Skyway from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Additionally, two weekend closures will be scheduled.

Here's how the DOT plans to re-route southbound traffic on Route 1&9:

The on-ramp from Tonnele Avenue to the Skyway will be closed and traffic will be detoured to the Route 1&9 Truck Route and continue back to Route 1&9 in Newark.

Traffic from Route 139 westbound will also be detoured to the Tonnele Circle and will follow the same detour as Route 1&9 traffic.

Motorists can access real-time traffic information via the state DOT Web site at www.nj511.info and www.njcommuter.com.

It's disappointing to see that others do not conduct themselves with professionalism or just the sense of what's the right thing to do. Perhaps New Jersey should follow New York's lead and increase the fine for not picking up dog poop by $100.00.

Re: Downtown Jersey City Watch-Updates Thread
Home away from home
Home away from home

Hello all!

Just a few notes that we can all utilize.

1) Calls to 547-5477 or 911. Please call 911 if it is a crime in progress. Please describe situation with a firm statement such as "attempting to break into my home" versus a soft statement such as "trying to open my door". The softer sounds like it may be an accident like a person getting confused versus the deliberate firm statement which clearly describes a crime. Also, don't forget to log in your calls, write down the time, the operator #, and the problem. If your operator is uncooperative ask to speak with a supervisor. Please note that operators are not Police officers and what they communicate to the dispatcher can be interpreted differently. Get another neighbor to call or start a phone tree. If you call in numbers, the volume may, though not guaranteed, bump up the call to a higher priority. If you have a problem with the operator, report to our group immediately.

2) Oren Dabney, CEO of Jersey City Incinerator Authority, provided helpful information. If you have a problem with garbage pick up, illegal dumping or grafitti, please call 201.432.4645 x614 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are open. JCIA and the NJ Dept. of Transportation met on June 8th to form a task force on graffiti. If you see a public facility or a mailbox that has been defaced, please call JCIA and give them the exact location or you can email us and we will forward your message. Also, check out their website, www.jciaonline.org. If anyone has any grafitti information like the web links that I posted, please email them to us. To reduce litter by kids, JCIA is working on a buyback program on plastic bottles and cans with local stores. Illegal dumping was picked up that night per a request made at our meeting.

Really? What would your taxes be without an abatement, at new construction residential property tax rates on your unit?

My cynical suspicion is that if things had gone better than expected Coalco would not be coming back to the city and cutting them in on the profits. Given this, why should the JC government help them sell units (above and beyond the existing deal) except giving them the advice that they lower their prices. Perhaps there is a reason that JC would benefit (greater tax revenues?) but Coalco doesn't mention it...

Facing a slumping real estate market and the reality of attracting buyers to an off-the-waterfront location that's not close to a PATH stop, Coalco developers now say they need a bigger break.

"We know you are not obligated the change the terms of the abatement," James McCann, Coalco's attorney, told council members at their caucus Monday. "The problem is they can't sell units."

Kudos to the JCPD who have twice in the last week responded to my calls about the loud and obnoxious late-night basketball games in HP. Both times they responded within minutes and shut down the games. If you see/hear these a-holes playing late nights Please call it in at 201-547-5477. Maybe this is a good place to post a question about JC and seniors. I'm looking for suggestions from retired people in this town who can pass along recommendations for services, classes, good doctors who take Medicare, tax issues, or other ways to life well as a retired person in JC...??

Anyone out there who has gone thru the 62-year mark and has tips to pass along?

Back to the core of the thread.

The issue has nothing to do really with hiring JC construction workers (which should be an automatic conditionality for any abatement, if one should ever be granted in the first instance).

The question is "Whether the city should essentially become a guarantor of any developer's profitability by renegotiating an already agreed upon abatement?"

The answer to that question should be an automatic "No" -- and especially at this phase of the project when it's essentially a post-construction exercise.

Although Councilman Fulop is correct to challenge a paulty "pay-to-play" quid pro quo of $150K in return for a renegotiated abatement, it's still not a shakedown. It's more accurately characterized as a "sell-out," for which the correct answer should be "NO RENEGOTIATION."

It's also sad to say that the Councilman's pay-to-play ballot initiative (although well intentioned) will not ban this most pernicious type of pay-to-play variant. This is where pay-to-play is most visible, and this is the type of practice which JC residents should be most outraged about, as it hits everyone in the wallet.

All the best.

Geoff
