I got some delivered from EL Congdon in East Orange a while back. Alternatively, you could load yourself and do 2 trips with a Home depot pickup truck.

1938 Tax Assessor?s photo (many of these were lost due to flood).

How does one find the 1938 tax assessor photo? Library? Did they photograph every house in the city at that time?

Exactly. The Brooklyn place had roof leaks for years and had s foot or so of sludge on the floor. It was virtually a gut-job. The JC Loews needs far less.

Gadzooks, enough with the murals already. Every f'ing building looks like a high school art project. That's not to say there aren't some decent murals, but whoever controls the selection process has the discriminating taste of a mom putting her kid's drawing on the fridge.

Can't some of the well-built buildings exist on the strength of their architecture?

Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown.

So, in the Hudson Reporter story, Candice Osbourne says "We do not want public spaces used for commercial purposes". Sure, she was specifically referring to the Hoboken bikes but her comment juxtaposes quite nicely with the prospect of bringing the for profit promoter AEG in to put on concerts and such at the Loews. Just sayin.

Hearings start at 1pm, you'll meet with the prosecutor who will hear you out and might allow an extension. If you have a lawyer he almost definitely will. Judge comes in about 45 min later and when your case is called, the prosecutor will make his recommendation based on your conversation and if you are rescheduling the judge will provide a new date. Then again, your excuses seem flimsy. The money excuse is bs. The judge might bring up the potential cost of the injury lawsuit if someone had tripped. If you own, you have to find money some way to keep your place up regarding public safety. Regarding weather, if you were supposed to have this done by Jan, you were probably issued the summons in Dec. the weather has been 38 degrees plus more often than not since December and the ground only really froze for a couple of days.

New Heights Dining Options

Thought I'd make a list of some new options:

Ozu Foods(Japanese)
106 Hutton St
Jersey City, 07307

http://ozufoods.com/

Just opened-Some kinks to work out but food is very good. Pickup only for now. I had the teriyaki bento box which was good. we also had the ribs which were were great and reasonable($4 for 2-3 large ribs), as were the potato croquettes. The Japanese style hamburger is also very good and very reasonable though be forewarned it comes without a bun. Food took a while and they ran out of a few things, but I'm fairly confident they'll figure things out in the coming weeks.

Dark Side of the Moo
52 Bowers steet
Jersey City, 07307

http://www.themoofoodtruck.com/home.html

Just Opened-Haven't been yet but have eaten from the food truck which was good. They specialize in "exotic" meats but also have some more straight forward offerings

Patsey's
93 Franklin St
Jersey City, NJ 07307

http://patseysjc.com/

Opened over the summer. Great for breakfast-I've had solid breakfast sandwiches, very good omelets, and excellent coffee.-haven't had any of their lunch/dinner stuff yet which is typical italian-american stuff. I've heard the burger is good from two neighbors. Also a tad slow-I recommend calling ahead for takeout. They have a nice small, clean, well-kept eat in area as well.

Pajamas as street clothes running rampant and you choose saris as your big fashion don't? Oh, but the issue is assimilation. Gotcha. Melting pot be damned. Ban those kilt wearing, bagpipe playing firemen from parades and funerals. No imported meats at Italian delis either. Turkey and american on my kaiser roll, no wait, wonder bread. Pass me some freedom fries. I'll have a beer while I wait. Shoooot, beer's not american either? Make it meth then.

Kudos to them for charging $17/lb for cod if that's accurate. That's a reasonable if not cheap price for fresh, responsibly sourced atlantic cod. The cod supply is f**ked in relation to historical levels. When you buy random supermarket cod for 8.99/lb, chances are you're supporting a part of the industry that would catch every last fish in the sea by any means necessary, current and future stocks and bycatch be damned. Atlantic cod is one of the most overfished species out there. Do yourselves and your children and their children a favor-eat sustainably sourced cod and other fish. Pay a little more. It costs more to bring fish to market when you target a specific species and consciously decide not to catch every last fish out there. Or learn what else is sustainable. There are plenty of reasonanly priced options. Eat previously frozen fish-pacific cod is sustainable and delicious. Or eat something else. I love fish , probably more than most(I'm no Troy McClure though), but I've sworn off delicious, delicious toro and many other species. The technology used to hunt these fish is just way too advanced, way beyond sporting, and it's got to slow down. Don't be an entitled, cheap, consumer. Do 2 minutes of research on what's sustainable and what it costs, open your mind to other species, consider frozen fish. I'm a fisherman by the way.

The fireplace is shallow because it was designed to burn coal not wood. Not necessarily. If it has angled sides it could be a rumford fireplace which is shallow and angled by design for improved heat efficiency over the traditional deep square type.

I have no idea how the bid went and if they plan to award.

Re: To JC Bikers Who Ride on Sidewalks...

As a driver I can?t even guess how many close calls I have had with cyclists riding on the sidewalk who ride out into the crosswalk when I am making a turn. I am a relatively careful driver, but I am looking out for pedestrians crossing the street between 2 and 5 mph, not a bike that is travelling much faster. It is tough to see an approaching cyclist on the sidewalk behind parked cars, and the cyclist shoots out into the crosswalk in a split second. When I am on my bike, this is a non-issue because I ride in the f-ing street.

Can someone explain the purpose of the 100 steps project to me? When I first heard about it, I assumed it would connect a the heights to hoboken in a place where it wasn't already connected. The elevator at 9th Street-Congress Street accomplished that at one end of town. To me this new project will save about 2 minutes walking time by allowing people to go up stairs rather than a slightly longer hill-there is already a perfectly walkable road. I think we Heights residents would have been better served by a stairway by riverview park or Christ Hospital where there isn't already a convenient connection. I also doubt that older or disabled folks will be able to traverse 100 steps much more easily than the hill. Any insight? Am I missing something?

According to city officials the police department is 63 percent white, though Census figures show the city is only 34 percent white. Surprised I'm the first to comment on this aspect, but the city needs to work on its math. At 34% white, 28% Latino, 27% black, and 25% Asian, they are accounting for 114% of the city's population without even covering all present ethnic groups. Just sayin'

Neighbors have a washing machine on their deck which drains into a gutter than dumps waste water onto the ground. Exactly how illegal is that?
