On Wayne St between Grove and Barrow there's a pretty cool statue of Buddha. I guess stuff like the Colgate Clock is pretty obvious, and also official? How about the weird elliptical clock/calendar at the end of the pier of the Hyatt at Exchange Place?

Re: Garbage in the streets

Home away from home

I think a lot of it is total disregard for the neighborhoods where people live and/or spend their time. Punk kids and irresponsible adults that just don?t understand the concept of personal responsibility.

I used to mow the lawn for a religious organization out in Montclair and I would always find beer cans and chip bags and other crap in the grass. Once I saw some high schooler leave a bag full of Chinese food trash on the grass right in front of me! I scolded her to pick it up, which she did, and then promptly threw in the next yard over. Some #OOPS#ing people.

However, I think a large part of it is overflowing public trash cans. I?m not sure how they accumulate so much trash, but every other week I see that every single trash can on Jersey Ave is overflowing to the point that stuff is falling over the sides and into the street, and the entire area stinks. I?m not sure if it?s because of people dumping personal trash in there, or if the JCIA doesn?t clean up enough. Either way, hopefully the new solar compactors will help remedy that situation somewhat.

There are a lot of old folks that live in the building right there, feeding pigeons and waiting around for buses.

So I don't think it's a scam. Still, they should be paying for parking. Handicapped tags don't give you free parking at meters.

I imagine ianmac to be like Olga from Hey Arnold! Publicly he hates Taqueria and wants to get them shut down, and obsesses every day with his complaints. But in his closet is a secret shrine to Taqueria with used paper plates, peanut butter candies, I <3 Pork Tacos stickers, and hair he?s found on the sidewalk outside. Every night he kneels in front of it, boxers around his ankles and a Taco Bell gordita in hand, crying the entire time. Resized Image

Me: Hello?

Jersey City Police Department: Hi Ben, this is Officer X from the Police Department. I am calling about the officer you had at your job site for your delivery yesterday.

Me: YES?..

JCPD: You didn?t pay him enough. You owe us another $40

Me: Officer, I paid him $160 which is a 4 hour rate (Jersey City has a 4 Hour Minimum), although he was only here for a quick 15 minute delivery. I didn?t even complain that he was 2 hours late?He was supposed to be here at 12. So, I don?t understand, how did I not pay him enough?

JCPD: Well, they get Time and Half after 4:00PM. I understand that he was late but he technically started at 2PM. So, from 2-4 he gets $80, and from 4-6 another $120.

Me: Come again...?

JCPD: I know he should have been there at 12, but he was late. It still doesn?t change the fact that he started when he did, which is 2PM. AS you know, according to the Union Rules, we have a 4 Hour minimum, so he technically worked till 6PM. And after 4PM, they get time and half?.

Me: Are you listening to yourself?

JCPD: haha. I don?t make up the rules Ben.

Me: I understand that, but 1) you want me to pay for a 4 hour service, which was only 15 minutes; 2) you also want me to pay time and half for a time the officer had already left; 3) and ignore that the officer should have been there at 12 instead of 2pm?

JCPD: Yes

Me: and you wonder why investors refuse to do business in this city? Why last year, you came close to laying off 80 Officers because of budget cuts?

JCPD: I know it sounds ridiculous.
Wouldn't you be able to argue that since he was supposed to be there at 12PM, that's when he started, and he worked 12PM - 4PM, meaning there is no overtime?

Ridiculous shit though. #OOPS# these guys.

federal taxes are the lowest they've been in decades. They were just cut a few years ago, if you'll remember.

And this doesn't so much seem a case of high taxes being job killers as it is a case of companies holding municipal governments hostage, as pointed out by the previous poster.

First, federal corporate tax rates are not the lowest. There was no changes since the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

Second, how is that an objection? Even if it were true - how does "it is lowest" denies that it is a job killer?
well, if it were a job killer, wouldn't we have the highest job rate in decades? And hardly any jobs years ago when tax rates were much higher? We've had much better economies with much better employment rates in times with much higher taxes. So how does it follow that it's a job killer?

what the hell is wrong with you people?

Why would you encourage businesses to leave Jersey City? The economy is bad enough as it is, and it?s far too difficult for new businesses to open in this city. Why start vendettas with businesses that do nothing but bring benefits to the neighborhood?

If you don?t like the place, then don?t go there. A lot of people love the business and want to see it stay around for a long time.

What kind of person goes somewhere, decides they don?t like it, and then spends the next few years complaining about it on a message board? Grow up.

http://ntu.org/tax-basics/history-of-federal-individual-1.html

with the exception of a brief period from 88-92, the top tax bracket is lower now by a range of 4.6% - 40% from previous levels going all the way back to 1930. Most years it was up at 70% - 90% and currently it's only 35%.

The bottom bracket is a bit lower now, or equal to rates since 1930.

It would be nice though, to see that bottom bracket go back to older levels, and have the rich share more of the burden again. But that won't happen so long as there are Republicans around, I suppose.

And to Taqueria, my family is at your establishment a lot. At least every other week we either have lunch there during the week or on the weekend. My kids love eating there and I know that when we are at Taqueria, they'll eat everything that's on their plate. It is disheartening to see your disdain towards your customers...is this how you feel about us? So you are just going to shut down your restaurant in JC and piss on your loyal customers, who by the way, probably helped you open a restaurant in NYC in the first place? Wow.

The two of youu need a time out and think about the tantrums both you threw on this board. Seriously. And while CatDog is just being a d-bag poster on an anonymous board, Taqueria needs to think about what they say about their customers before they post it on the internet for all to see. Are you going to hang this exchange up on your wall too?

Edited: Ooops, I called out the wrong person, sorry Ian!
I was making fun of jcboyz, who said "Screw the food, the owners are the biggest DOUCHE BAGS in JC!!!! WTF, these people suck so screw them and their kid!"

I love Taqueria and wish them and their child the best. And I think it was stupid of jcboyz to say mean things about their child. But I'll try to make my humor more clear next time.

I'm going to build a gigantic penis-shaped statue in front of your house that blocks your view of everything. And you better not complain about it.

Gaping holes in Exchange Place plaza
Home away from home
Home away from home

There are now 4 gaping holes in the plaza at Exchange place, next to Exchange Place Center (10 Exchange Place). They're covered up with plywood, trash cans, and - since they're running out of stuff - newspaper stands. There are another 4 or 5 of these crappy concrete blocks that are deteriorating and will become holes soon.

Who should I contact about these things? It's a safety concern, and it looks hideous and cheap having freaking plywood covering up a 5-foot deep hole in an otherwise nice plaza.

I don't really think it belongs within the PD - didn't Fulop make the point that PD officers are paid 2x as much as PA officers? - but it's pretty obvious that the JCPA needs to not be an independent organization outside of the municipal government. CEO and a board of directors and no oversight. F those guys.

I think they would maintain a minor league team even at a loss, because there has to be somewhere to develop talent. You can't have your prospects sitting around at home. Though I suppose they could work out some way to loan them out.

WSJ is published by the Dow Jones company. And DJ is a part of the "News Corporation". Which owns few other things, Fox News included. Fox owns nejther DJ nor WSJ.

But I am guessing you were interested more in the political ad hominem, rather than in the factual correctness.

In both cases.
I was more interested in mentioning the company that people would be more familiar with.

Anyway:
Rupert Murdoch founded News Corp
Rupert Murdoch is the CEO and Chairman of News Corp
News Corp launched Fox News
News Corp bought the Wall Street Journal

So yes, technically Fox News does not own the Wall Street Journal, but you know what I was getting at, and you're just being a semantic dick. Let me rephrase it by adding just a couple words:

"the Wall Street Journal is owned by the same people as Fox News, so that doesn't surprise me much."
