If you're living next to a bodega in Jersey City, you'll have people stopping for loosies and buttered rolls from 6 in the morning blasting their music in their idling cars, hanging outside drinking their coffee, smoking and talking loudly while the smell of bacon wafts up to your apartment to the point that you'll never want to open your windows again.

Bodegas are excellent to have down the block, but not next door.

Airbnb should be banned in Jersey City. Keep the transients in hotels and keep residences for residents. This will only reduce the available housing stock for residents, reduce quality of life for residents, and be an income source for Fulop.

I live in Ward F. We are not able to get the police to do anything about the drug dealers across the road. The block association has tried to take action, I have tried to take action. Nothing happened. In fact, the city just awarded the drug dealer's landlord a significant tax abatement, so you and I are paying to house drug dealers. That's where the tax abatement money is going in Ward F.

The residents of the building that was awarded the tax abatement sit in the street until early in the morning, and get drunk and throw their garbage in the street. Calling the police is useless. They don't do anything.

We have had several fires in the street in the past fews years. It's a miracle the fire brigade has been able to attach a hose to the hydrant because residents park in front of the hydrant almost every day. People also routinely park on the street corner making it hard to turn the corner. Traffic tickets are not issued.

Summer is the worst, because the drug dealers are out on the street all night. Our neighbors this year decided to have their relatives live on their front steps, so from March until September we had a family of 3 staring at us every time we walked out our front door. The police were called when the other neighbor's daughter went off the rails and she was arrested. She was living in her car in front of our house up until this point.

Because of the people who hang in the street all night, our front bedroom is unusable, so we had soundproof windows installed. We cannot have the windows open at night, so in summer we run the air conditioning every night and in winter we keep them closed. We open them during the day to air the room, but it depends a lot on who is drunk on the street yelling, so sometimes we still close them. The window installation came shortly after a shooting outside our window.

We have not one, not two pit bulls but five surrounding us. Our neighbors went on and on about how pit bulls are harmless, and were oblivious to the fact that they kept jumping the fence to come after us in our yard. We had to have a larger back fence installed just so we could walk out into our yard in safety. In early summer the smell from the dog feces made the yard unusable, but they must have cleaned it up because we don't notice it now.

The schoolchildren are better now. The first year they damaged our car. Even though we had footage of the incident, of course they are minors so we had to pay for the repairs ourselves.

Seriously, how would you like to do a house swap? I would so love it if I had your problems.

The music was unnecessarily loud. But the ghetto is worse.

We won't need so many lung doctors with less cars driving around.

And cracking down on bad drivers and parkers doesn't have to wait for a crackdown on bad cyclists. They can, and should both happen. It's a stupid argument to say that we can't get rid of A because B is more annoying to you.

Police need to step up their game. I've seen them shoo people away from double-parking in bike lanes but they never give tickets. Bad parkers are like flies, shooing them away does nothing. You need to squash (ticket/tow) them or they just fly away and come back to the same spot.

All backyards and courtyards should be banned for commercial use. It's a nightmare living above a bar or restaurant with patrons shouting and smoking and playing music all day and night. Keep it inside or out front. Give us some peace out back!

Jersey Ave is a deathtrap. Commuters speed through all the time and ignore pedestrians crossing. Police and firefighters on their way to work are particularly bad crossing 7th.

Jersey ave should have traffic lights at every intersection or be converted to a one way heading south.

The [NEW YORK] City Council is preparing a bill to ban helicopter tourism from the five boroughs, saying the flights are so noisy their wings should be permanently clipped.

Councilman Carlos Menchaca (D-Brooklyn) is drafting the bill to nix the business, which employs around 200 people and operates out of the lower Manhattan heliport, his chief of staff confirmed.

It's not fear mongering. It's what happens EVERY TIME you build a casino. It's the most slime ball way of trying to raise money from the worst(off) people in the world. It's like Meth for government. A blinding intense high (of $) that will destroy your body and mind (the city and its people).

Shame on Fulop for supporting this. He's lost all credibility. Really, fuck that guy.

"It translates into rises in suicide, embezzlement and bankruptcy that have real social costs."
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/13/mag ... &ref=magazine&oref=slogin

"The Connecticut casinos have created a pervasive gambling culture in the southeastern region of the state, skewed the region's economy and pushed it toward low-paying service jobs, he said.
Steele said traffic from the casinos has overwhelmed local roads, drunk-driving arrests have soared and the number of calls to local police has increased fourfold.
Casinos receive 40 to 60 percent of their profits from problem gamblers, yet government is "mesmerized" by the gaming industry, Steele said."
http://www.southcoasttoday.com/article/20140605/News/406050356

"When casinos move in, other businesses are often forced to close down. The examples of Atlantic City or Niagara Falls confirm that observation. Gambling preys on people who are poor, luring them with the promise of a life free from financial worries and burdens.
Sixty percent of casino revenue comes from gamblers making less than $25,000 per year. As a result, bankruptcy rates are 100 percent higher in counties with casinos than in counties without casinos. While casinos may bring in tax revenue, this is perhaps the worst form of regressive taxation imaginable. The poorest of the population are the ones funding this tax revenue.
Gambling adversely affects family life. Divorce, child neglect and suicides are products of gambling addictions.
Casino gambling is especially addictive with corporate strategies to stimulate the problem gambler into spending more and more. In challenging economic times, people are tempted to grasp for straws from people promising jobs. This is a very hollow promise. Gambling never creates wealth because no product or service is produced.
Gambling merely facilitates the movement of money from the hands of many to the hands of a few large corporations dedicated to the spread of gambling."
http://www.cantonrep.com/article/20091006/NEWS/310069799

And there's plenty more to read about if you're truly naive enough to think that a casino is a good thing to have anywhere near you.

This ain't vegas.

Also, does anyone remember the Super Bowl transit nightmare?
http://deadspin.com/why-the-super-bow ... tmare-happened-1514932712

The traffic will be horrendous around met life stadium ( http://www.nj.com/bergen/index.ssf/20 ... s_traffic_even_worse.html )

and if they build it in JC and build that bridge into LSP all those drunk low-lifes are going to be coming right down Jersey Ave and filtering through DTJC running stop signs blasting music, killing pedestrians, robbing people for gambling money, and having sex with prostitutes in our alleys and quiet streets.

It'll be a menace with no upside for Jersey.

You're not going to have a classy casino here. It's going to be a trashy riot magnet from the opening day. Just take a look at the one they built in queens.

Only the lowest of the low will go. We need culture, not casinos.
