stani, If Healy and his administration boast that crime is down, violence is down then Team Healy needs to be held accountable for all of these shootings that are involved the settling of scores too. There needs to be a Zero tollerance and get these gangs off the streets. If you want to boast, then back it up.

Healy knows he will get eaten alive at a debate. He would be exposed for being a failure as Mayor of Jersey City. He keeps telling us about all the great change he has made...here is his chance to prove it in a debate.

Sateen, not sure how long you are around Jersey City, it was at one time in the 70's and 80's a very safe place....While the heights in not exactly ghetto, it does have much undesirables element that has moved in under the current administration..and yes folks like Healy and Gaughan need to be held accountable for the heights being the way it is today.

Re: JC Heights - Safety?

The Heights was at one time one of,if not the safest place to live. There were not drugs being sold, gang problems, violence ect. Central Ave was a nice shopping district, it had nice stores and shops. You could sit on a bench, enjoy a nice day, senior citizens felt safe. You even saw police walking the beat, your lucky if you see them even driving along Central Ave, Palisades Ave or Summit Ave, which are main Streets up the heights. To think, Healy, Gaughan, live up the heights and seem clueless and have done nothing to make it safe again. How does an area that was once a great area end up like this...answer....POOR LEADERSHIP!!!!! in City Hall.

Hey Elvis, relax, perhaps you need to grab a beer or two with Healy. I don't assume the citizens of Jersey City are stupid, however look at who we vote into office.

HEALY and BEER Perfect together!!!!

Is this really who we want running Jersey City. It will never become a great city with Healy, and his flunkies in charge. In addition they will just keep embarrassing the citizens of Jersey City.

Hey Healy instead of using taxpayer money for your campaign, why not use to put more police on the street as you promised rather than cut them by 5%. Please let's not re-elect Healy he has no regard for the citizens of Jersey City.

Wow a broken promise already! At the City Wide Public Rally on March 3rd Healy said to promise to increase police on the street.

The number one concern must be public safety, when our Mayor jeopardizes that he has got to go.

Healy and Gaughan, neither believe in email. I do recall that article a while back about in the Jersey Journal, I'll see if I can find it as Healy claims he does not read emails. In addition Gaughan also mentioned he does not beleive in email and email is for yuppies.

Both of them OUT OF TOUCH...So let's VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE!!!!!

Re: Cutting Down Crime

Our current Mayor had his chance and Failed on Crime!

It is great to see the citizens of Jersey City rise up against crime. This cannot be a one time City Wide Public Safety Rally. We must have more across Jersey City. Our elected officials along with the Police Chief must be held ACCOUNTABLE.

In addition us as citizens of Jersey City must get involved to help the police. Now Healy says he promises to increase police on the street, typical campaign rhetoric, what about they years Healy has been in office.

Why was there not more police put on the streets, why was he not addressing the crime issue, hell, he would not even admit there was a gang problem, saying in the newspaper, Jersey City did not have gangs running around, no less even admitting there was a crime problem.

All he would do is give statistics. He did not have to address the crime issues because he has the Mayor's job already. What are we getting now, a campaign promise that will end up being broken if he is re-elected. When the Mayor jeopardizes public safety he is not fit to run the city.

I don't want to hear it about budget problems, ect, and we can't hire more police. The number one concern must be public safety for a city to flourish, that being said you find the money to hire more police, you appoint a police chief that knows how to motivate, deploy, utilize his police force, along with implementing strategies to successfully fight crime.

Healy has had the privilege of being our Mayor and failed us on the crime issue. He can throw out all the statistics he wants, people do not feel safe period. It is time to take that privilege away from Healy.

No matter who is elected, we must hold them Accountable on the crime issue. If they are not getting the job done rallys must be continued to be held until they get the message and get the job done.

The Mayor works for us!

It has more to do with that we have too much goddamn crime and our current elected officials and the police chief have not done enough to address the crime issue.

Re: Statistics & Manzo on Crime

No Doubt statistics are being manipulated..it's easy enough to do. Some of it also has to do how you put the statistics in a report and present. I see this all the time as I work with folks that provide statistics and metrics, which are then sent to people to put into a report that needs to be presented. It would be no difference with the crime statistics. In addition what about the information not reported on, that would also manipulate the numbers too. If they really want to know how safe people are feeling then they should go directly... to the people...Obviously the really showed people do not feel safe.

DUDE,

I guess the truth hurts compared to the Reality about the State of the City

I am not shill for Healy's opponent, nor has he done me personally wrong.

I'm a taxpayer, I vote, I have a right to speak my piece about government, especially when they are not doing a great job.

I wonder what city Healy is talking about when he mentions crime is down. Perhaps Bradley Beach. Seems nothing Healy says can be related to reality.

Reality is that we are not better off than we were four years ago with a shooting a day and two murders a month, Jersey City streets aren't safer.

Let's face it if you ask the people how safe they feel in Jersey City, I doubt the majority will feel they are safe.

Re: Gaughan's Legacy!
Home away from home
Home away from home

Bottom line is that we have problems up the heights we did not have years ago. I'm born and raised in Jersey City, been there 48 years. We did not have gangs, drugs being sold (right on Central Ave in broad day light) crime problems that we have today. Gaughan has been in office 16 years and yes has done some good things, but the fact of the matter it the heights, which was one of best places to live has gone down hill while he has been in office. When he was first elected there were much better stores, no we have a bunch of shit 99 cent stores on Central Ave. The streets are dirty, we see hardly any policing. The senior citizens can't go for a walk and sit on a bench up there and this is just during the day. In the evening, especially in the warm weather it's like they open the cages to the zoo and many of the undesirables run rampant. Since we are not getting adequate policing, perhaps Gaughan should walk the streets up their at night, if he is even in Jersey City instead of being down the shore. And like Healy says Change we can see.....yeah in the wrong direction. They need to be held accountable, they wanted to be elected and were, well doing a great job comes with the territory. They have failed!

This is No City for Old Men....maybe the sequel, No country for old men can be shot in Jersey City.
