Once again GWB, I recommend that you re-read my post.
Quote: Well, if you must know, I received the press release from the organization itself. I emailed it to Mayor Healy, Steve Fulop and the JCNWA, who all have official ties with the JCPD, with my disclaimer that the press release clearly has some strong language but that my intention in forwarding the message to them is to request an investigation and an official statement from the JCPD. "Further investigation into the incident" was precisely my intention in forwarding the email to Mayor Healy, Steve Fulop and the JCNWA. You are the person who derailed this entire thread by insinuating that the alleged victim's connection with a "commie" group automatically discredits him. The incident involved three people, one of whom was in fact a member of the org that disseminated the press release. Why is that so surprising to you? Then you further derailed the thread by jumping to conclusions and making insinuations about me. I agree that more information is good, essential even, which is again why I forwarded to the press release to the authorities. You on the other hand did a google search then made your own assumptions. Also, my "clairvoyance" is based on the fact that you have never been able to engage in a debate here on JCList without resorting to personal attacks or doting on the individual. So yes, I knew you were going to focus on me and stray from the subject .

I KNEW that's where this was going to lead to. How utterly predictable. How did this become about ME?
Just so you know, I worked for a Democratic Senator so YOU can make your own conclusion about which party I owe my loyatly to. By the way, you completely contradict yourself here: Quote:
As for the misspelling, I would extend you that courtesy, but really, all you needed to do was look at the subject line. But for your info, the people of the Philippine are called Filipinos (in English) or Pilipinos (in Tagalog/Pilipino). The 2 national languages are English and Pilipino (often times called Tagalog). There are absolutely no Phillipinos living anywhere on that archipelago. I am only clarifying this to you because you so eloquently underlined the need to do our research/investigation before posting or jumping to any conclusions here. Any other questions? EDIT: Actually, I think you should just direct your questions to the organization, because you are clearly doting way too much on me, and this thread has nothing to do with ME. If you re-read the orginal post, you will see their email address.

Well, if you must know, I received the press release from the organization itself. I personally know some JCPD police officers and while I have shared my criticisms of the JCPD as a whole here on this online forum, I have done nothing but support them in real life, as evidenced by my willingness to join the neighborhood watch groups, which work in conjunction with the JCPD. So, GWD my dear, there is no jumping-to-conclusion on my part, and most certainly no "phillipino hate" toward the JCPD emanating from me or my many Fil Am friends from JC. Any more questions for me before YOU start jumping to any more silly conclusions? As for "equating the experience of these folks to what African Americans had to live with under slavery and Jim Crow", please re-read my post. I was making the analogy between one politically active/connected person who had bad experiences with another, and refuting your silly notion that just because Alan Alda was a member of such-and-such organization, all his actions & motives particularly surrounding this incident are automatically suspect. By the way, it's "Filipino" not "phillipino". Might wanna look into that, too, before you "blindly" post messages on a forum without doing your research. Google is your friend, as are dictionary.com and other nifty sites. Now, before you go any further, I suggest we speak in person, because many people here on JCList know me personally [they know my name, address and contact info] while I/we only know you as GWB. Not exactly a fair debate, especially on something that is so personal to me, and could potentially have a backlash towards me if you or anyone makes any more wrong assumptions. Lastly, to avoid any further confusion, and I am a "she".

So, based on your post GWB, we should have ignored people like Rosa Parks (who I'm sure you are aware was a secretary for the NAACP -- GASP!) as "apparently not some political innocent with no agenda". In fact, hers was such a strong agenda that she repeatedly refused to sit in the back of the bus until the last well-known incident exploded in the national media and set the wheels rolling for the American CR movement.
Also, you failed to acknowledge that the 3 men in this story went to the precinct to report a cab driver and essentially ask the JCPD for help, and this is where things get hairy, for some reason was instead arrested themselves. I highly doubt that they went there with the full intention of getting arrested -- for what? So they can launch an attack on the JCPD? My point here is this -- stop jumping to conclusions one way or another until you've heard both sides. I won't be attending Saturday's meeting because frankly I don't find the story incredible, yet I am reserving judgment until I hear an official statement and hopefully an investigation from the JCPD about this, both as a concerned JC resident and a Filipino American. There are some people on this list that have direct ties with Chief Troy and the JCPD and I really would appreciate if we could get their side. In fact, I would even attend that meeting if I knew that an official representative JCPD would be there to speak on their behalf.

I received this via email over the weekend and forwarded it to a few people to hopefully get an investigation started and get an official statement from the JCPD.
Also, per the press release, a public meeting with Alan Alda has been slated for this Saturday at 1pm, so anyone with questions about the incident have a proper place and time to do so.

Goodness, too much drama fo' yo' momma!
Skirt, thanks for the informative report. As you said, nothing happened, and you post clearly portrayed that. You did not elaborate on what was actually SAID at the press con/meeting, so anyone who was not in attendance is left to wonder what was said, if any (ie, what was the question that the Neighborhood Watch representative respond to and what was the response?). Now, in terms of how you learned about the meeting, I don't know why you are so offended by that perfectly legitimate question. Bright, the public apology was totally unnecessary, but very much appreciated. You're a real stand up person and I thank you & extend MY apologies for the misunderstanding. I will see you and the rest of the JC neighborhood watch association this Friday. This thread is sucking up way too much energy that ought to be spent on more productive things. Plus, it's are making me wanna cheat on my diet and have a huge dessert. LOL.

Bright, I didn't receive an email myself, plus I was out of town. I'm curious though, who organized the meeting and disseminated the press release?
Anyway, I agree with you. As someone else posted on another thread, the JCNWA is far from perfect, and it needs everyone's support to ensure its continued success. Without the neighborhood's support, it can't advance its mission, which is exactly the same as GA's. So, when IS the next GA public meeting?

CK, someone posted earlier in this thread that the GA were initially invited by the owners of the Dixon Deli after the robbery and violent attack on the woman (owner?) working there late one night. The owner was a former GA, so this makes a lot of sense. In this particular case, the "rocket scientists" were the owners who were attacked by criminals. Supposedly, the GA go into neighborhoods when they are invited and asked patrol the streets. I understand how local politics and public perception would come into play whenever GAs are visible, but face it, with all the violent crimes being reported recently, JC HAS gotten out of control, period. I don't know about anyone else here, but I still refuse to walk more than 5 blocks and in certain areas alone at night. And I grew up in the "worse" parts of JC! In fact, I lived right by the 2 worst projects in JC (Duncan and Kerry's Woods) and in many cases I felt safer there because I knew exactly what streets to avoid, while in downtown, it's unpredictable. Car break-ins, dead body drop-offs, and 4-hour late night crime sprees, anyone? No one's saying the GA shouldn't go to other such areas of JC as Greenville and Bergen-Lafayette, and while I can't speak for them, I can't imagine why they would say no if they were invited. Perhaps someone should contact GA and invite them there. PS: MrG, you're already cool in my book. I hate to say it, but part of the reason I frequented Melt was, besides the Ugly American, the awesome music that blared out of your speakers! Damn, now I'm fiending for an Ugly Am.

Officer Mac was the old PR guy for JCPD. I believe his official title was Community Relations Officer and he was great at maintaining an open line of communications with us here at JCList. We posted questions about crime and safety, and he answered. He got promoted and was replaced by Officer Dana O'Reilly who refuses to use this venue for communicating with the community.
Man, I miss Officer Mac.

Wow, you sure are one busy person!
The Teen Summit was mentioned at the last City Council meeeting, and I wonder if the councilmen/women are aware of the tomorrow's meeting. Though if I remember correctly, Council Pres. Vega said that "[they] all have day jobs" and can't attend events during the week, but that he sure would try. I personally can't go, but it would be nice if we could get a report here on JCList. Maybe someone should contact the Guardian Angels (OneSkirt?) and invite them to the summit? I can't think of a better way for the GA to reach JC teens directly. As for Sumisibol, they are a great bunch. I've met with some of the founders (are you one of them?), and I can vouch for their passion for working with teens. They also work with teens of all ethnicities, particularly through their college prep forums/programs for HS teens. By the way, I believe the correct URL is http://sumisibol.org

Hello pchops,
We met a few months ago during one of the midnight drives around downtown JC. I used to receive emails from JCNWA but have not received anything lately. I couldn't attend last Monday's meeting, but I am still very interested in helping out. Please keep me in the loop and let me/us know when that internal meeting is scheduled for. I will do my best to attend, schedule permitting. Minnie & pchops, I think it would serve everyone's goals best if you coordinated with pchops. Let me know how I can help.

We took a little walk to the park today. The main streets are plowed, and it's not that cold out. I was planning on stopping by the Varick bodega for the GA thing, but after all the shovelling we did this morning, I think I'll take it easy the rest of the day. I hope they reschedule the event.

Yes, but the crimes are being committed anywhere BUT the construction sites. We need cops walking the beat, not sitting in squad cars drinking coffee or reading the paper.
I understand that the developers are picking up the tab, but these are the same developers who are getting undeserved tax abatements while property owners are getting robbed by tax hikes and muggers on the streets.

Just yesterday, when I was driving to Staples, I saw 3 cop cars parked right by the construction site on Columbus. The two cops were sitting in the 3rd car just stared back at me as I looked at them when I drove past them.
I understand that rent-a-cops are free to work wherever they wish when they are off-duty, but why are they using JCPD cars and other resources being paid for by my taxes?

I've driven past that property many times, and even after seeing the photos of the interior, I still don't agree that it's worth $8.9M. And because it's still on the market, I would think that the market doesn't think it's worth that much, either.
Here is the listing, and a photo of the exterior (more photos in the listing):
