Just go to news.google.com and type Jersey City. Most of the news is about crime. No positive news at all. JCPD needs to do its job properly. Where is JC's batman?

Extended stays in Secaucus. I know someone who live on the same street who has power. I recommend this hotel because I have stayed there for a month. Bus to NYC takes 30 min. in the morning. Evening commute is even less than that.

Barack Obama: The Star-Ledger editorial board's pick for president

I agree.

Our hope is that Obama wins decisively and that Republicans respond by moving toward the middle, as Democrats did under Bill Clinton. That may be wishful thinking, but it is the nation?s best hope.

Between 2000 and 2010, the Census Bureau reported last month, the population within a two-mile radius of City Hall ballooned by nearly 40,000 people.

A separate analysis for the Downtown Alliance, a coalition of property owners, released on Friday, concluded that neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn and New Jersey within a 30-minute commute of downtown experienced an increase in the population of young, educated workers.

Already, the number of creative and professional workers (in fields like advertising, media, arts, finance, insurance and real estate) in neighborhoods 30 minutes or less from downtown outnumber those workers who live on Long Island, in Westchester County and in other parts of the Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut, the analysis concluded.

The biggest gains among those workers were in two areas ? the Newport-Grove Street-Jersey City Heights area on the New Jersey waterfront and Williamsburg and Greenpoint in Brooklyn, each of which had an increase of more than 10,000 residents.

75k is towards the lower end of middle class in NYC metro area. It might be considered "high" income in West Virginia.

Good job nynjnet. One thing I would like to see when i route from WTC to Exchange Pl is whether the train is a HOB train or NWK train. So I know what platform to get down to at WTC station.

You are welcome! Newark has the potential to become a great city. It has got all the good elements needed for that. The good work has been started by the mayor. Hope it continues in the future so that less people in Jersey have to cross the river for work.

Cory Booker
Home away from home
Home away from home

Cory Booker strides to the lectern at a June reception honoring hedge-fund founder Bill Ackman. Pershing Square Foundation, Ackman?s philanthropic organization, had pledged more than $25 million since 2007 to help Booker?s poverty-wracked Newark, New Jersey, improve schooling, enhance parks and find jobs for ex-convicts.

Now, in Manhattan?s Mandarin Oriental ballroom, the 43- year-old mayor salutes one of the titans of finance he had persuaded to revive a city in which some have never set foot, Bloomberg Markets magazine reports in its November issue.

?The room is packed; you had every major hedge-fund, private-equity person,? recalls Joseph Shenker, chairman of law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP.

Booker holds guests spellbound using the Hebrew phrase ?tikkun olam,? or fixing the world, to describe Ackman?s generosity. It?s a notion Booker has adapted to his city 12 miles (19 kilometers) west of Wall Street, and the moneyed elite are buying in.

Editorial: Don't blame Gov. Christie for N.J. unemployment
Home away from home
Home away from home

Trenton?s gone wild with finger-pointing over climbing unemployment, and Democratic Assemblyman John Wisniewski?s aiming his blame straight at Gov. Chris Christie. This is pure politics, just as it was when Christie was the Republican challenger, blasting Gov. Jon Corzine over job losses.
Time for a reality check: Attacking a governor over his ability to create jobs over the short term is silly ? because, truth be told, there?s not much he can do.
Our state rides the wave of the national economy. And before Democrats fire at Christie, they should remember that their jobs records is even worse. From 2001 to 2010, New Jersey experienced a net loss of 156,100 private-sector jobs. Democrats also mostly ignored higher education, cutting funds and failing to make important structural reforms by reorganizing our higher education system, as Christie is doing. That should pay off over the long term.

I think Lafayette lacks cultural diversity too. JSQ is the only truly culturally diverse neighborhood in JC.

WTC and JC home prices/rents
Home away from home
Home away from home

Do you guys see a significant appreciation of home values and rents once the tower is complete? Especially along the NWK-WTC and HOB-WTC lines?

The Infrastructure
Despite having spectacular views, the WTC?s piece de resistance might be the infrastructure. There will be an 800,000 square foot, multi-billion-dollar transportation hub on the WTC site. It has the capacity to ferry a quarter million people a day to their destinations across the city, according to Port Authority. Its PATH station connects to cities in New Jersey such Hoboken, Newark and Jersey City, while the subway grants access to much of New York City. ?
Perhaps missing out on the advantages would be those commuting from suburbs via the Long Island Railroad, Metro-North Railroad and parts of New Jersey Transit.?
Moss said the ease of access from cities in New Jersey like Hoboken and points across NYC may appeal to a younger generation of workers.

Beware of those bicyclists

Call it a case of road rage -- with a bicycle.

A 16-year-old Jersey City boy -- who became incensed when a man tried to warn him to avoid an impending collision with the man's wife -- busted into the man's home and attacked him Thursday night, police said.

The Summit Avenue boy was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and simple assault after the 8 p.m. incident on Fifth Street in Jersey City.

Best beach on the jersey shore?

I have been to a couple of beaches in south jersey and a couple in central jersey. So far I found Cape May the best. I would like to hear from fellow JCites about their favorite beach. I am trying to decide where to go for a day trip this weekend. So far thinking of LBI, since cape may is a bit far for a day trip.

Of course the ARC tunnel would have eased the passenger load on PATH trains by sending more commuters to midtown directly rather than through Hoboken's PATH trains, but that's not happening thanks to Christie, so remember that next November.

What world do you live in man? The most crowded line is JSQ-33 and not HOB-33.

Re: Idea for additional route for Light Rail

Home away from home

I propose a different route. NJ transit has already agreed to extend the west side avenue branch to the Hackensack river front. How about extending the LR north from there along rt 440/Truck 1&9. And have a stop in Lincoln park and one more stop north of the park, before connecting to Secaucus junction. This will provide acces for west side residents to midtown via a short ride to Secaucus. It will certainly spur development of the west side - not just residential, but corporate too.
