Good, you go to Ringside. It'll be less crowded at O'Haras that way.

Liberty State Park is a New Jersey State Park. That's their official website and it will contain any official information about a reopening.

There are a series of pictures demonstrating the damage to the train terminal, the Hudson River Walkway and the various buildings in the park. The pictures demonstrate that the park -- or at least certain sections -- will be closed for quite some time.

There are select weekends when there are guided tours through the undeveloped sections of LSP. Of course, now you'll have to walk the long way to get there.

The undeveloped section is an amazing place. Nature has reclaimed a highly polluted rail yard. There are so few places in our area that have been free of human intervention for decades.

It was picked up by the surge and moved about 100 feet west of the path. There are pictures floating around -- it has not been fixed. The bridge is likely destroyed.

Add Tommy 2 Scoops to the list of places hit hard -- they suffered a lot of damage last year, too. They just added that addition on the back and it's probably going to have to be redone.

Didn't Taqueria threaten to close up and move to Brooklyn? Wonder if this flood is the final straw for them.

So let's get this straight,

You want to get furious and write letters each time you see you're overcharged on the LED EZPass display rather than getting angry once when your statement arrives?

By the way, you can get a (paper) receipt ... there's a lane labeled just that at most exchanges. There's also a cash lane if you feel the EZPass system is "not interested in fair business practice" ...

You'd be very surprised to learn just how little you really are entitled to.

Checked this place out based on this post.

The waiter was extremely nice and accommodating. The food was on par with the "other" place. One person at my table ordered chips and guac app for herself but they brought out two orders (for the price of one) just because there were five of us.

Two thumbs up.

The completion of the WTC coincides with Jersey City becoming a viable alternative to Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The new WTC is adding jobs to lower Manhattan. New jobs = new or relocating employees = more demand for easy access to lower Manhattan.

My neighbors are long-time downtown Jersey City residents. When they purchased the three story walk-up that we're in now, they paid about $10,000. That same building (they own two) is now worth over $1 million each. The upward trend in property value and rents isn't new.

So you'd prefer the mid-1970s R46 trains found on the old BMT tracks over the new PATH cars that were just installed last year? Ride the A and then say you'd prefer an MTA car over a PATH car.

Also -- the trains can only travel as fast as the tracks that were built over 100 years ago allow. The straight-shot from Exchange Place to WTC is quick because it's straight. The twists and bends between Newport and Christopher is slow. It has nothing to do with the PATH, the Port Authority inherited the tracks when they took over from the H&M.

edit: The ferry is about $7 - $8. Cut off your nose to spite your face?

Re: Surf City/Liberty Harbor Marina and Hudson Public Walkway

For clarification: This is the "exit" road if you're at Surf City / Ferry Lot / RV lot. This road exits on to Jersey Ave, on the LSP side of the light rail tracks.

If this means anything: when the LSP foot bridge approach was being repaved last year, officers blocking off the bridge stated I could "go around" the construction using this road. He then stated it was private property and I'd be doing so at my own risk, etc...

Re: Kraverie for Sale

Couple possibilities...

The restaurant is the combination of two prior businesses, the Crepe Truck and the Krave Truck. Maybe personalities didn't mesh?

Or, what started out as a small food truck business has spawned in to a very successful restaurant -- time to cash in?

Selling the restaurant could also bring in more cash from a wealthy owner who wants to continue the business.

A For Sale sign isn't necessarily the end of the road.

Serious question: how many park their bikes long-term outside? If you live in DM and have a bike, why not keep it indoors if this is a reoccurring problem? I have mine in my kitchen. I'd rather trip over it at night than have it consistently stolen outside.

Why not just continue to the already existing lightrail line to Hoboken and just get on an NJ Transit train there? The only major lines you can't access from Hoboken is the Coast Line / NE Corridor, but those lines can be picked up via transfer.

Quote:

There you can connect with Amtrak and NJ Transit trains.

Amtrak doesn't serve Secaucus Junction.

Rethink the plan. You're proposing a light rail to Secaucus when Hoboken -> Secaucus NJ Transit already exists.

Good to see the plans include returning to the street grid. It's amazing to track urban planning (housing projects -- WTC in Manhattan) that destroyed the grid, only to have it resurface 50 years later.

As far as biggest/tallest public housing -- aren't the buildings on Montgomery between Marin and Warren public housing? edit: just looked it up -- apparently not.

Re: Another accident at Grove and Grand

THIS JUST IN

Crosswalk at Columbus and Grove no longer puts up a walk sign to get across CCB (even after the delay to let cars come down the one way). I guess it's push the button or walk illegally. Seems like a great way for JC Police to ticket and make money.

One of the most pedestrian-heavy intersections...

Re: Another accident at Grove and Grand

There's just so much wrong with this intersection:

1.) The Boys and Girls Club side is a clusterfuck of driveways, streets, huge bumps and light poles in the middle of what looks like a drivable path.

2.) Westbound Grand is one lane but cars turn it into two.

3.) Eastbound Grand has a sudden left hand turn lane, not to mention the terrible left swerve just a few hundred feet before. The straight lane is also always blocked by the Edible Arrangements van or some variation of, forcing straight cars to swing into the left turn lane. The speed limit up to Grove is 25, but find one car obeying that..

The biggest problem with this intersection is the lack of pedestrian right-of-way signals and the legal turn on red outside of school hours. Unlike the Shoprite/BJs light on Marin, the Walk sign always corresponds to the Grove green light -- and since all cars turn onto Grand -- it's a game of car dodge even when pedestrians have the green light to cross.

Re: Tachair Bookstore on Newark Ave.
Home away from home
Home away from home

I really hate to be critical because I love books and I love small stores like this trying to make it. But ... is this really a book store?

When I think of book stores, I think of places like The Last Word in Philadelphia where books are piled on top of books piled on top of books piled on top of tables made out of books. Books spilling out on to the floor, violating every fire code in the ... book!

This place had none of it. Is this "the start with more to come" or is this it? By the vibe in the store and on the website, this place is more about hanging out and drinking coffee with books on shelves in the background.

Am I missing something? Am I asking too much?

One hour is reaaaalllly optimistic. You might be able to pull off 1 hour on a Sunday morning at 6am. Just getting over the bridge (Pulaski or TP Extension) is normally 20 minutes during rush hour.

The exit in New Brunswick is an absolute shitshow of congestion, traffic and two-lane-at-a-time merges. You will cry yourself to sleep each night doing this when university is in session.

Training it down to Princeton is at least consistent. That, and you'll be going against the rush hour train traffic.

I generally like the design of the place, but the one thing that looks super cheap is the asphalt walkways painted blue. In about a month it's going to look awful as the paint fades with foot traffic. They should have invested an extra couple of bucks and put in nice light-colored brick pavers, that would look awesome. Oh, and they should bring in real palm trees a la some of the shore bars, or just not have anything ... I think the fake palm trees are super tacky. I mean, if a 5 year old can tell that they're fake, why even have them?

This is exactly the problem with this place: it has potential to be really awesome but I can easily see it turn into a trash heap. The sand, the blue pavement, the canopy that's sitting in the sand half-built ... all these things need maintenance. Will they keep this place up or let it turn in to a dive and just milk it for the money?

Re: Surf City Restaurant & Megabar

I never went here when it was the Sandbar -- wasn't my kind of place -- but I heard plenty speak out loud last night of how Surf City is exactly like its former self.

With that said, how has this place not been sued into oblivion? The entire blue area is a continuous run of uneven pavement. The decking by the sand and the bathrooms is poorly lit and comes to unexpected ends, curves and dips. The lighting that does exist is mood-lighting and that only messes with your eyes. One drink in and I had a hard time navigating in the dark in the back without rolling my ankle.

The space immediately outside the building, with the 1/4-circle curved benches, is at least even and well lit. The perimeter is a little ... rough around the edges. Hopefully they'll continue to improve it in the next few weeks.

It is still a fun place. Definitely has that Zeppelin Hall vibe, same glasses, same food setup and many of the workers are familiar. The music is a mix of 104.3 summer rock songs and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I walked along the Hudson River Walkway afterwards and there was crowd noise immediately across the marina but no loud bass-heavy music. The neighbors should be satisfied.
