NJ W2 Tax Question
Home away from home
Home away from home

Spouse did not receive a NJ W2 from employer, only the FED and NY State. Employer says they don't provide NJ W2. I work in NY too, but my employer ALWAYS provides a NJ W2 which I file with taxes. Commentary? ? ?

Also, any reputable respected and reliable tax consultants out there ?

Thanks everyone

Re: Need Help With Oil Tank Removal - Recommendations?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Currently going through same process. Out of Contract. Under 14 day inspection period. Seller disclosed there was no oil tank. We didn't believe it. We used Accurate Tank Testing LLC to scan. 275 dollars. They found an oil tank. We will not purchase the house UNTIL Seller removes tank, replaces all contaminated soil. DO NOT Agree EVER to take on the responsibility of removing an oil tank. . . that is on the Seller if the Seller ever wants to sell the house.

Is Growing????? When you got Trumps and Kushner buildings going up, i guess it's over .....

See the new Richard Meier Teacher's Village in Newark for real tasteful forward thinking architecture.

Re: Is 'Gentrification' good for Jersey City?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Gentrification benefited downtown (like Williamsburg), but displaced bad element residents into other sections of Jersey City that were once more nice, thus creating an unstable environment, i.e. Greenville, Heights, Lincoln Park (but nothing like Weequahic, Vailsburg, Camden). The waterfront zone changed from industrial to residential and allowed for mass immigration (tall residential towers) at market rate rents. The decrease of crime in NYC and eventual gentrification of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Hoboken pushing rents/home buying higher lead to a flood of new residents seeking convenient access to Manhattan to move to downtown Jersey City. PATH access for JSQ, Harrison and downtown Newark will be the next areas for gentrification and light rail stations that feed directly to these stops will benefit also. Gentrification is good. It decreases crime, increases services, and hopefully encourages diversity, which is a challenge and seems to be the concern of gentrification. I have been living in downtown for 11 years and remember the lack of places to go and have a bite to eat and a pint to enjoy, but not anymore. I think government and private enterprise (with the support of residents) need to provide incentive for those communities to benefit from downtown's success. Reduce crime, better education programs, encourage and protect creative arts, and provide stimulus for developers to invest in commercial and residential projects thus leading to property value increase and safer streets. I think the majority of people like gentrification, however, there will be people who just don't like it also. But if gentrification reignites and rejuvenates areas that once stood for blight i.e. downtown JC and downtown Newark, it's good.

Crime is in Weequahic and Vailsburg... . . . Baxter Terrace Projects that plagued central ward / downtown are destroyed and a couple others off M. Ali Drive...all near Downtown ....it is like saying, don't go to Jersey City ....Greenville is located there !

1. It is too high, they should make it lower. 2. Paint the Hump and add a warning sign. 3. We need a stop sign at 8th and Manila.

Just curious, what are you both quitting (regular day jobs) to start a business that 1. you need experience and 2. takes many many hours to maintain and manage.

Re: JC in NY Times article on "Life After Brooklyn"

Lived in DT for 10 years now (lived in Hudson County 20 years now!) and the neighbors next door just moved in from Brooklyn ... of course...told them how it was just 10 years ago (imagine 20-30!!) and some change is good and some is bad....I am looking to move to the Heights and I hope it does change, but not everything...

I enjoy exploring new areas and I encourage everyone to try and do the same...just the other day, was in the Heights and saw "Noodle Fan" on Central Avenue next to North Street...it was excellent Thai food and very cheap and...the chefs looked like an older couple....I enjoyed it... Park Tavern is great too and everyone should just kill an hour or two walking around "LIttle India". LIke "Cinco de Mayo" on Central Ave too.

Re: Hydrostatic Repair....Water in the Basement
Home away from home
Home away from home

Lets put it this way, the seller, had put in a poor cosmetic fix on the unattached side by cutting the bottom of the walls and replacing it with new walls covering the brick. The other side, the seller just ripped out the walls and left the brick exposed, that is the attached side of the house.

The unattached side is all the other neighbors property, so I am guessing, how do I do an outside french drain on someone else's property?

Anyway, because of the concern, we tried to drop the price a little and the seller said no and dropped our contract/offer etc.. and went with an other offer.

Attorney Review
Home away from home
Home away from home

When do you pay the attorney in a real estate transaction, at closing? Why I am asking is the contract was emailed to the attorney. He will review and add rider/addendum language pertaining to some deficiencies. If the deal falls through, either by us/buyer or the seller..do we pay the attorney? Any body with experience?

It is in the north part of the Heights between Central and Palisade. I had a contractor look at it, friend of a friend..he said 1. The house next door drain pipe from the gutters is broken and gushing water on to the side of the house. 2. The house would need to have a french drain etc..built in, sealed tarred, plastic, etc...etc.....and other things, all said and done 10 to 15K. Any comments?

Looking to buy a house, seller disclosed water gets in the basement when it rains. I ran over there and there were two small puddles... 1. Anyone have any experience repairing their basement and 2. Can anyone recommend reliable company to repair and 3. What does it cost (read it can be several hundred dollars to thousands?) ....

Thanks everyone

Guess he was on his way to the hospital huh? The Heights is slowly changing for the better, but there are still some corners you want to avoid...particularly near St. Pauls ...going north on Baldwin to Prospect...there are nice houses and blocks, but it can get shady quick.

Always easier to pick apart the king than to be the king. . . . there are some things Steve Fulop has done right, but he is definitely pulling a Christie here by hiring incompetents who only look out for themselves. A guy installs a gas line without city permission and is not immediately fired, shocking.

I went to SBC this past weekend. I had a brownie and coffee, both okay. The space is wasted. They could have furniture and tables near the windows and another bench on the other side of the door. It doesn't look like much effort being put into the business. The whole inside is oddly laid out. So many weird displays etc..
