Re: Man Fatally Struck by Light Rail in JC

Can't believe nobody listened to Yvonne

As far as I can tell/remember, this is only the second person to be struck and killed by the light rail *since it opened*. The first one was ruled a suicide. This one appears to be an accident, or at least negligent on the unfortunte victim's behalf. This is an incredibly low rate, especially compared to car traffic in JC.

Now Indio's on the other hand... that place needs to clean the f up.

LOL... right, who could have possibly foreseen gentrification coming to that location!

I lived on the block for five years and outside of cop cars on a handful of occasions, it wasn't particularly worse than any other bar. Lucky 7's , two blocks away, is just as loud and has more people standing outside of it and it doesn't get the flack that Latin Lounge got.

It should, I feel bad for the people on that corner too.

As for the ongoing drama about the banner, well... it is well known in JC circles that lots of people had it in for Latin Lounge. People who *choose* to move next to a bar (or other commercial establishment) and then complain about the noise of said place get zero sympathy from me. The ones that take it a step further and actively seek to close the place are the worst, on my book.

One thing you missed RCResident, I never said to use public funds or public lands. I said the city could have done a fundraiser for them. There are so many negative things associated with inner youth in JC, St. Anthony was a positive thing. In the video on Showtime, you could see how much the youth loved their school. I am sorry it is not available for the next generation. Our youth needs direction and St. Anthony HS gave them that.

You are literally Jersey City's version of Donald Trump.

Incidents like this that I've witnessed usually happen when the attacked individual (allegedly) messed with someone else's man/woman. Often baseball bats and/or bottles are used.

Fascinating bit of rampant speculation, thanks

I do shop at Acme, but I can't be bothered with the Monopoly game. I usually take the pieces though because I'm too polite / can't be bothered to explain.

This is clearly and personal issue being publicized for maximum drama. If the dogs are damaging your fence, take the owner to small claims court.

Re: Likelihood of Fulop Getting Reelected

Home away from home

There have been a lot of high profile departures during his tenure and nothing has really changed in regards to the police or building departments, two major issues blocking Jersey City's progress as a (ahem) "world class city". JC Make It Yours and bankrolling Chicpea are just embarrassing. The parking authority dissolution has been a mild disaster. RCC is a propaganda tool. Who even knows how the JCMUA/JCIA is going. I'll take Chico as a barometer on that.

On the other hand, we have Healy's lawyer and a guy who I mostly know from this timeless article:

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... y_assemblyman_defend.html

who seems like an ok guy with the kind of funny, mostly harmless flaws we all have, and that's about all I can say about him. Is this the best we can get? (I ask that with all of the irony in the world during a Trump administration)

I'm sick of tax abatements myself, but I wonder what you think Donald Trump would do about this? On the business side, Trump would be eating up abatements like candy. On the government side, Trump would be doling them out like candy. If you doubt me, just look at the Carrier deal. He gave millions of dollars to a company that's moving a bunch of jobs to Mexico. Trump is exactly the problem that you're complaining about.

At least this abatement includes a new public school, so we're getting something out of it.

hero69 is right. This is why people voted for Trump: they're a bunch of idiots that don't know how the world works.

There always seem to be a fine line between places of worship and community center. My solution you ask? Amend the zoning code so they're treated exactly the same. A small community center should be allowed anywhere a church is allowed and vice versa.

Don't shut it down. That's just salty.

Why is there a line at all? A nonprofit gathering place is just that, whether they worship Ganesh or basketball is immaterial.

These folks don't drive on the Sabbath, so they need a place in their neighborhood. Not accommodating that in some sensitive way will bring a shitstorm, there's storefront churches all over this town.

Not driving is a choice (dictated by their religion) just like it is also a choice where you reside. If having a place of worship close by is important, then it is incumbent upon each individual, or group of individuals, to make sure that where they are choosing to live can accommodate their needs, within the law. If the article is correct, the current zoning laws do not allow for a houses of worship on MLK. So, if the synagogue violates the law, why should it be allowed to continue operating as such? That's a slippery slope... what if someone opened a bar or club in a residential area? Should they be allowed to remain open because they already built it?

It's called applying for a variance, genius. Happens all the time.

It's no coincidence that these incidents nearly all occur in heavily "progressive" urban cities, where the amount of Hillary voters heavily outnumbers Trump voters.

And when there is photo or video evidence of the perpetrators, they are black or otherwise obviously people who knew what they were doing. Here is a representative example:
