I would definitely put Legal Beans in the mix of good coffee shops, and Basic's coffee is decent too. As far as chains go, I actually like the coffee at the Van Houtte near the main post office. Go there whenever I have to pick up a package.

Since when has "downtown" been a neighborhood? Downtown is the WHOLE ward; Newport, PH, VVP, HP included.

No -- I don't like Starbucks -- I was going to post this to the Newport Mall thread -- but thought better of it -- and decided to start this new one... however I have done a real bum job of it! Haha

Here is your list of "Coffee shops with great coffee:"

1. Dames (Counter Culture beans)
2. Warehouse (Intelligensia beans)
3. Word Bookstore's cafe coming soon (Stumptown beans)

and someone added...
"Don't forget Brewshot."

I am sure legal Beans and others might also chime in...

The cheapest deal I know is Columbus Deli -- $1 large Hot & $1.50 Large Ice Coffee with coffee ice cubes!

So you consider a chain of coffee shops that supply less than mediocre beans and overpricing them "high end"? How much cream and sugar do you actually put in your Starbucks to make it palatable?
