Probably means that the man is an Egyptian citizen given that he was an oncologist there. I'd like to know why he thought his stepdaughters were 'dancing on graves.' Is that some sort of new thing the kids are doing these days?

Or more pointedly, what does the (assumed) ethnic description have anything to do with the story?

Man goes to trial for allegedly abusing stepdaughters

By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
October 17, 2009, 7:00AM

Deliberations have begun in the trial of a Jersey City man charged with sexually abusing his three stepdaughters about a decade ago, officials said.

The 59-year-old man, whose name The Jersey Journal is withholding to protect the stepdaughters' identity, is also accused of threatening to kill the three stepdaughters or their family members if they told anyone about the incidents, officials said.

The stepdaughters -- who are now 16, 20 and 24 -- all testified during the trial, as did the man.

He faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and making terroristic threats, officials said.
The crimes occurred in the family home, prosecutors say.

The count of aggravated sexual contact alone carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison upon conviction.

The defendant, who said he was an oncologist in Egypt, was charged in December 2007 and has been in jail since then, officials said. While on the witness stand, he argued that his stepdaughters had fabricated the charges.

Their motives, he said, included their desire to stay out all night, dance on graves, dress like Goths and go to a community college. Defense attorney Louis Serterides of Jersey City could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The trial began Oct. 8. Deliberations began on Thursday, and the jury is scheduled to resume its work on Tuesday.
