Masked trio robs Slope deli
Tuesday, April 01, 2008 Three masked men robbed a Jersey City deli and its customers Saturday - and made off with nearly $2,300, according to police reports. The men burst into Carlton Deli & Grocery on Liberty Avenue at about 5 p.m., with at least one of them brandishing a handgun, police said. One of the men yelled at an employee, "Give me the money and lay down or I'm going to shoot you," according to reports. The robbers took $1,500 from the cash register and nearly $800 from employees and customers, hitting one man twice with the butt of a gun, police said. They fled south on Liberty Avenue, then east on Lake Street, reports said. PAUL KOEPP
