Newark teen shot in Jersey City

Jersey Journal
Sunday March 02, 2008

A Newark teen was hospitalized after being shot in the back Saturday night, police said.

Jersey City police were called to a shooting on Montgomery and Florence streets around 11:25 p.m., but were unable find any sign of the victim, police said. They later found several spots of blood at Bright and Florence streets, but could not find any shell casings, police said.

A short time later, police were told the 17-year-old victim was being treated at the Jersey City Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the back, authorities said.

The victim told police he heard shots but did not see his assailant, authorities said. His relatives told police he is a former Jersey City resident who had returned to the city to see his girlfriend, police said.

The victim's condition could not be determined tonight, but police said he may have suffered spinal cord injuries.
