The 'good' doctor - If he's prepared to scam the government, the odds are he's prepared to scam patients!

Jersey City pediatrician sentenced to 21 months in prison for Medicaid fraud

By Ben Shapiro | The Jersey Journal The Jersey Journal
July 29, 2015 at  6:23 PM

TRENTON — A Jersey City pediatrician was sentenced to 21 months in prison on Wednesday for fraudulently billing Medicaid for more than 1,000 wound repair procedures that were never performed, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman announced.

The previous owner and operator of Sinai Medical Center of Jersey City LLC, Dr. Badawy M. Badawy, was charged back in 2013 for his scheme and later pleaded guilty this past February to one count of an indictment charging him with health care fraud.

Badaway, 52, ran a pediatric and family medicine focused practice in Jersey City from January 2004 to December 2008. Over that time span he submitted thousands of claims to Medicaid for wound repair procedures related to superficial wounds on patients' faces, ears, eyelids, noses and lips, a Department of Justice release stated.

The billing of false procedures resulted in Badaway receiving $196,911 in faulty Medicaid payments.

On top of his prison sentence, Badaway was ordered on Wednesday in Trenton federal court to return the money he collected, pay a $5,000 fine and serve three years of supervised release.
