This is a great opportunity and if you have someone looking to get into a trade that pays well, then pass it on.

This was the message from Fulop:

Our administration is always looking for ways to help our residents move forward and one of the ways in which we do this is by maximizing our resources and partnering with others. I am really pleased to announce that the City of Jersey City is working with the Hudson County Building Trades Association, the Jersey City Office of Employment and Training (JCETP) and local non-profits to help Jersey City residents enter into the construction and building trades.

The program has a special emphasis on veterans and minorities, offers a pre-test to assess the skill level of potential applicants, and will also provide remedial math and reading classes to help potential applicants prepare for the tests. There will be additional assistance provided for those who need help obtaining diplomas and transcripts from Jersey City schools, as well as assistance with driver?s license reinstatement.

If you are a veteran, you are eligible for the Helmet to Hard Hats Program, which gives top priority to veterans looking for a career in the building trades. With unprecedented construction going on in Jersey City, almost all the trades need apprentices. There are standard requirements for applying which include having a birth certificate, a valid driver?s license, a high school diploma or GED.

Here is a list of opportunities if you are interested in finding out more about apprenticeships and entering the building trades:

Plumbers and Pipefitters: Both the Plumbers and the Pipefitters will be accepting applications for the test in early March. There is a $50.00 application fee.

There is no application fee and the test will be given at the end of the month. For more information visit: http://www.local32jac.org/

I trust this information will be useful to you, or someone you know. Please share it widely with family members and within your community. I look forward to sharing more exciting opportunities with you in the near future.
