Nice one!

Now if only it were possible to play there casually without an insurance policy and permit.

The Jersey Journal

The Jersey City Recreation Foundation was awarded a $150,000 grant for the installation of a synthetic turf soccer field at the Ed "Faa" Ford Athletic Complex at Caven Point, Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced yesterday.

The Jersey City Recreation Foundation was one of 37 organizations nationwide to receive a 2014 U.S. Soccer Foundation "Safe Places to Play Grant," which will used to overhaul a grass field that suffers from drainage issues.

While the U.S. Soccer Foundation grant will cover a portion of the cost of the synthetic turf, Fulop's administration and Jersey City Recreation Foundation are actively seeking additional grants to fund the entire turf replacement project.

The field services a number of organizations, with more than 1,000 children playing soccer there annually.

The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, has awarded 37 grants totaling more than $1.8 million to non-profit organizations serving youth in underserved communities across the nation.

?We are pleased that Jersey City has been selected to receive this grant for the installation of the synthetic turf at Caven Point, as soccer continues to be one of the fastest growing sports in our city,? Fulop said in a press release announcing the grant.

The Safe Places to Play program seeks to build or enhance field spaces in underserved and provide spaces that are safe for children to play soccer. To date, the foundation has helped create or improve over 1,000 field spaces nationwide.
