Lack of police officers walking their beats = anything goes attitude in the minds of our pea brained criminal element.
Until they actually think they might get caught expect plenty more of these stories. Bad economy, people rolling off unemployment, etc all contribute to crime around here.

(is it me or has crime gotten worse in JC since the 12 detectives were promoted, the JCPD web site updated, and the JCPD town hall meetings convened ?)
Jersey City police report two teens arrested in gunpoint robbery of couple walking in Newport marina area Published: Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 3:00 AM By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal Jersey City cops nabbed two Newark teenagers Monday after they allegedly robbed a Newport couple at gunpoint and punched the wife in her mouth when she demanded they return her husband?s wallet, police reports said. James C. Hayes, 19, and a 17-year-old boy were charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon and robbery, reports said. The 17-year-old was also charged with possession of a firearm by a minor. Police met the shaken couple at Washington Boulevard about 11:15 p.m. and were told the couple was walking in the area of the marina when a boy wearing an orange jacket pointed a gun at them and said ?Give me everything you have,? reports said. The boy reached into the husband?s pocket and removed a wallet containing some cash and credit cards, and the suspects took off on bikes, reports said. But the couple spotted them inside a parking lot, and when the wife threatened to call police if they didn?t return the wallet, the 17-year-old punched her in the mouth, reports said.
