Man robbed, another stabbed two hours apart on Virginia Avenue in Jersey City, police say
Published: Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal A gunpoint robbery and a stabbing took place Sunday on Virginia Avenue in Jersey City in what appears to be unrelated incidents, officials said. ?Give me the money and don?t make this into a homicide,? was the demand a gunman made at about 9:30 p.m. after following a 23-year-old Virginia Avenue man home from West Side Avenue Light Rail station, reports said. The victim gave the masked robber his wallet. But when the robber saw it contained no money, he tossed it back saying, ?This ain?t worth it for a debit card,? reports said, adding the robber walked away toward Mallory Avenue. A 29-year-old Forrest Street man told police that at about 11:40 p.m. he was walking out of a Virginia Avenue bar when he saw a fight. He was stabbed while trying to break up the fracas, he told cops. Responding officers found the victim bleeding on the side of his body. He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where doctors said he was in stable but guarded condition, reports said. Anyone with information about these incidents should call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
