My suggestion is to contact:

YWCA Battered Women's Program 270 Fairmont Avenue Jersey City, NJ 07306 (201) 333-5700

Many moms and children enter this program and some times arrive with just the clothing on their back. The Director is very honest and will tell you if they are or they are not in need.

Does anyone have any more recent information on where to donate unwanted (and unused!) toys?

The JC Community Playgroup at Resurrection Parish at St. Bridget's Church, 372 Montgomery Street (between Monmouth and Brunswick) may be able to use them. The basement where the kids play reportedly got flooded from Hurricane Irene & they lost toys. Perhaps you can contact the church directly.

I bet a local school would also be interested in these.

I have hundreds of lego-type blocks that were going in the trash at work. They are small, so probably not good for under 4yo, but still lots of potential for creative fun! What organizations around town should I look into?
