Casales of Bayonne was arrested early Saturday after police say she tried to stop a police officer from arresting a man outside the Laguna Lounge bar at Summit Avenue and Charles Street in the Jersey City Heights. An off-duty Hudson County sheriff?s officer was arrested early Saturday after she tried to stop a Jersey City police officer from arresting a man outside a bar, officials said Monday. Sheriff?s Officer Maritza C. Casales, 44, of Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne, was issued a summons and charged with obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, police said. Casales, who has nearly seven years on the force, was suspended without pay yesterday, pending further investigation of the incident, Sheriff?s Office spokesman Michael Makarski said. According to police reports, cops were called to Summit Avenue and Charles Street at 2:29 a.m. Saturday on a report of a large and unruly crowd outside the Laguna Lounge bar. When cops arrived, they saw Victor M. Matos Jr., 28, of West Side Avenue, flailing his arms and pushing people, and when someone yelled ?Cops!? Matos began cursing at the officers. When a cop tried to arrest Matos, he shouted obscenities and ?(expletive) you!? at the officer and put up a struggle, reports said. Then Felix Antonio Torres, 35, of Jordan Avenue, jumped into the fracas and tried to stop the officer from arresting Matos, reports said. While a second cop wrestled with Torres, an officer heard a voice from the crowd, yell ?I?m on the job.? Still struggling with the two men, the two cops thought it was an officer coming to help them, but instead Casales barked at them ?You can?t do that,? and placed herself between Torres and the officer, allowing Torres to momentarily escape the clutches of the officer, reports said. Torres and Matos were finally subdued and charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing a government function and resisting arrest, reports said. Casales disappeared into the crowd, but then showed up at the North District to ask about Torres and Matos, reports said. When she arrived, the officers involved in the incident recognized her and she was arrested. According to police, she admitted that she interfered with the arrest. Casales could not be reached for comment Monday. Judging by her Facebook page, she anticipated a big weekend. At 9:02 p.m. Friday she posted on her page: ?Goin OUT baby.....!! WooHooo!!!! :).?
