A Jersey City man made his first court appearance Monday on charges he stabbed the superintendent of the boarding house where he lives off Journal Square on Friday after accusing him of bumping into him.
Arnando Cruz, 47, of Academy Street, has been charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses in connection with the 6:05 p.m. incident, officials said.
When police arrived at the boarding house they found the 56-year-old victim bleeding heavily from his arm, reports said, adding that his pants and shoes were stained with blood.
The victim told police he was taking out the trash when he walked past Cruz, who said ?Why did you bump me? What the (expletive) is wrong with you?? reports said. The super said he realized Cruz was intoxicated and tried to slowly back out of the vestibule, asking Cruz to calm down, reports said.
The victim said Cruz took out a 6-inch pocket knife and tried to stab him in the stomach but he blocked it with his arm and was wounded, reports said.
The superintendent was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he received stitches for the wound, reports said.
