At 3:05 p.m., police met with the Pavonia Avenue boy and his parents and were told he was at Pavonia and Van Wagenen avenues when a 16- to 18-year-old male armed with a bat rode up on a bicycle and took his cellphone, reports said. The victim and his friends chased the robber but lost him on Kennedy Boulevard, reports said. Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
