Jersey City police say man hit in face with gun during robbery by two men on street in afternoon
Friday, September 09, 2011, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
A Jersey City man was hit in the face with a gun during a robbery on a Greenville street Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The 20-year-old victim said he had just cashed his pay check and gone to get a haircut at Martin Luther King Drive and Oak Street, but because there was a wait, he went outside to talk to friends, reports said.
He said a man grabbed him from behind and held him in a choke hold as a second man pointed a gun at him, saying "You think this is a game?" reports said.
As the gunman went through the victim's pockets, a bystander tried unsuccessfully to grab the gun and the gunman then struck the victim in the right eye with the gun, reports said. The robbers ran away after taking $450 from the 20-year-old, reports said.
The victim was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of a severely swollen eye, reports said, adding that police have identified two suspects.
