View Larger Map Car strikes 5-year-old Jersey City boy Monday, July 18, 2011, 3:00 AM By Charles Hack The Jersey Journal A 5-year-old Jersey City boy was struck by a car Saturday night and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, police reports said. The child, an Ocean Avenue resident, did not suffer broken bones but was taken to the hospital?s pediatric intensive care unit for observation because he had a bump on the head, reports said. Police were called to Woodlawn Lane near Ocean Avenue at 9:50 p.m. on the report of a child being struck by a car. The 35-year-old driver, a Bergen Avenue resident, told police he was driving east on Woodlawn Lane when the child darted across the street chasing a ball, reports said. The child then ran back across the street in front of him and he was unable to stop, reports said, noting no charges were filed against the driver.
