The child?s 41-year-old mother told police that at 9:30 p.m. Monday she was driving her Toyota Rav4 at Fulton and Ocean avenues and her daughter was in an infant seat in the SUV?s back seat, reports said. She said she heard gunshots ring out and the rear cargo window shattered, reports said, adding that she sped away to Bayview and Ocean avenues, where she called police. Responding officers found that the bullet hole through the window was within a foot of where the baby had been seated, reports said. The mother said that after hearing the gunfire she saw two men running north on Ocean Avenue, reports said, adding they were wearing blue jeans shorts and white T-shirts. While police were at the scene one of the SUV?s tires went flat and the officers found a small hole in it, but it was not clear at that time if the tire too had been hit with a bullet. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
