View Larger Map Teen on scooter charged in drive-by shooting of pair Monday, May 16, 2011 By CHARLES HACK JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A man riding on the back of a scooter shot and injured two men in a ride-by-shooting in Jersey City Saturday evening, police reports said. A 17-year-old Montgomery Street resident was charged with aggravated assault, extreme indifference to human life and conspiracy in connection with the shooting of two men Saturday at 10:44 p.m., police said. Police were responding to what they thought was a road rage incident, when the driver of a silver Toyota flagged them down at Grand Street and Summit Avenue and explained that two people he was taking to the hospital had been shot, reports said. One of the victims, a 23-year-old Jersey City man, sitting in the front passenger seat of the Toyota, was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the right side of his head just below the temple; and the second victim, a 20-year-old Hillside man, sustained a gunshot wound through his upper left leg, reports said. Both men were treated at Jersey City Medical Center. The driver told police that he was standing with the victims outside a house at Harrison Avenue near Monticello Avenue when two people riding a moped sped by and the passenger opened fire, reports said. As police officers interviewed the driver, he saw the suspect ride past on the scooter and pointed out the yellow moped to them. Police officers arrested the rider who was found to be unarmed, reports said.
