The man, George Jamison, 50, died during emergency surgery at the hospital. A homeless man was fatally stabbed nine times in a vicious assault in front of a liquor store last night, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said. The victim, George Jamison, 50, of Jersey City was stabbed in front of the liquor store at 402 Pacific Ave. at around 9:30 p.m., officials said. Jamison, who spent part of his life in Lafayette section of Jersey City but is currently homeless, was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center at 11 p.m. last night while undergoing emergency surgery, DeFazio said. Jamison was stabbed nine times, including four times in the chest, and at least once in both arms, his lower back and thigh, officials said. "He had been in the liquor store. He came out and shortly afterward the incident began. We don't know what precipitated it," DeFazio said. "We believe the actor in the case will be apprehended." DeFazio said it is possible the victim knew his attacker. "We don't know what the motive is at this time," DeFazio said. "The victim had a wife living in Florida." The prosecutor said there were witnesses to the crime. One witness in a car, who called the police, followed the suspect but eventually lost him. DeFazio said the victim and the suspect were not together in the store, but security cameras may have captured the suspect's image from an earlier visit to the store, DeFazio said. The store's security cameras may have caught portions of the crime and homicide detectives had been in the liquor store earlier. The video has been viewed and is being enhanced, DeFazio said, noting the knife has not been recovered.
