View Larger Map Man arrested by cops for attacking cabbie with an umbrella after not paying for a ride Saturday, April 02, 2011 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A Morganville man was arrested on Journal Square yesterday after he allegedly beat a taxi driver with an umbrella, sending the cabbie to the hospital with a broken nose and cuts on his face, officials said. Beshoy F. Ayyoub, 38, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. on Kennedy Boulevard and charged with robbery, assault and weapons offenses related to the umbrella attack, Port Authority police said. The cab driver picked up Ayyoub on Sip Avenue and drove him to the Square where Ayyoub allegedly refused to pay for the ride, police said. The cab driver told police Ayyoub got out of the car, walked to the driver's window and began punching him and striking him with an umbrella, police said. The cabbie got out of the car while Ayyoub allegedly continued to attack him and ran into the Path Station and into the Port Authority police station, police said. Officers ran out and spotted Ayyoub standing beside the cab and he was arrested after the cabbie identified him as his attacker, police said. The taxi driver was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, police said
