View Larger Map Jersey City Cops: Carjacker arrested on Merseles Court after foot chase By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal June 02, 2010, 5:00AM An East Orange felon was arrested for a Jersey City carjacking after pointing a gun at the driver of a vehicle and telling him not to stop for the police car that was trying to pull them over, officials said. Charles Derosier, 24, was arrested after a foot pursuit at about 9:30 p.m. on Memorial Day and charged with carjacking, possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting arrest and additional weapons charges, reports said. An officer was stopped at the light at Montgomery and Merseles streets when a car raced through the light and stopped beside the cruiser, reports said. The driver excitedly told the officer that a man in white Ford Excursion SUV at the intersection had just robbed him at gunpoint, reports said. The officer put on his lights and siren and pursued the white SUV, which made a right down Choppin Court where it slowed, but then accelerated before finally stopping, reports said. The SUV driver got out and said, "What's going on?" and was ordered to the ground by the officer, reports said. Then the passenger side door suddenly opened and Derosier got out and ran holding his waistband as if he had a weapon, reports said, adding that police recovered a handgun along the route of his flight. The SUV driver, a 57-year-old Union man, told police he was on Communipaw Avenue when Derosier approached the vehicle of the man who first approached the cops and saw the man run away, reports said. The Union man said he became nervous and was watching in his rearview mirror when he turned and saw Derosier sitting beside him, reports said. Derosier had a gun under his shirt and he ordered the 57-year-old to drive, reports said. The Union man said every time he tried to pull over for police, Derosier ordered him to keep going, reports said. Derosier told police he was in Jersey City visiting someone, he never had a gun, and the Union man had agreed to drive him home, reports said.
