A resident assistant at New Jersey City University was robbed at gunpoint as he walked to the Kennedy Boulevard campus this morning and responding officers nabbed one of the alleged robbers as he ran through Audubon Park, officials said.
At 12:11 a.m. police arrested convicted felon Kevin M. Carlisle, of Armstrong Avenue in Jersey City, and charged him with robbing the 20-year-old Edgewater man, reports said.
The victim told police he was crossing Kennedy Boulevard when a man took out a handgun and told him to "put his hands in the air, shut up and don't say anything," reports said.
The victim said that's when Carlisle arrived and the pair repeatedly threatened to shoot the dorm resident while taking his three cell phones, including a Motorola Droid, and his wallet, reports said.
The robbers then ran away and the victim gave a description to NJCU security officers who quickly spotted two people fitting the description , reports said. Campus security called city police and arriving officers grabbed Carlisle in the park, reports said, adding that the victim identified him as one of his attackers.
Carlisle was in prison from Dec. 6, 2002 to Oct. 30, 2004 on convictions for drug possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and theft of a vehicle, state corrections records say.
Police searched the area for the second suspect with no luck, reports said.
