Greenville: Five shots hit fleeing Bidwell man

A Jersey City man was in critical condition when rushed into surgery after being shot five times in Greenville on Wednesday night, officials said.
At 10:15 p.m., police officers on patrol were flagged down near Bidwell and Ocean Avenues, where they found the 22-year-old Bidwell Avenue man lying in a puddle of blood on the ground, reports said.
The victim had been shot in the right abdomen, left buttocks, right arm and twice in the right side of his back, reports said, adding that he complained of being in severe pain.
An ambulance responded and the wounded man was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was in emergency surgery within minutes. Doctors at that time said he would be under the knife for two to three hours, reports said.
Officers were not able to interview the victim before he went into surgery.
A witness said the gunman fired a silver handgun several times while chasing the victim east on Bidwell and then south on Ocean Avenue, reports said.
The gunman then ran back to Bidwell, where he got into a car and fled west on Bidwell toward Martin Luther King Drive, reports said.
The gunman is described as being around 21 years old, standing 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, and weighing 130 to 140 pounds, reports said. He was wearing a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt, a vest, and red and black Air Jordan sneakers, reports said.

A 29-year-old Jersey City man was undergoing surgery at Jersey City Medical Center last night after he was shot on Ege Avenue near John F. Kennedy Blvd.
A Jersey City man refused to cooperate with police after he was shot on Ege Avenue last night, police said. Police found the 29-year-old on Ege Avenue near John F. Kennedy Blvd., lying face up, bleeding heavily from the leg at 10:31 p.m.
The victim was conscious and told police he had been shot, but refused to answer additional questions, police said. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he continued to be uncooperative and said he didn?t want police assistance, police said.
Police said doctors were unable to immediately determine from the wounds how many time the victim has been shot. The injuries were considered to be life threatening and the victim was taken into surgery, police said.
Details of his condition were not available today.

Greenville: Florida man shot twice in Jersey City

A 19-year-old Florida man was shot twice early this morning near 99 Bayview Ave. in Jersey City.
A 19-year-old Florida man was shot on Bayview Avenue in Jersey City early this morning.
The man, a Tampa resident, was shot twice in the groin area while near the intersection of Bayview and Ocean avenues at 1:40 a.m., police said.
Police found four 9 mm shell casings near 99 Bayview Avenue and another casing in the middle of the street. The victim was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, his condition was not available.
A witness told police he was outside with friends and heard several gunshots, but the group fled fearing their own safety and did not see what happened, police said.

Montgomery Gardens Housing Projects: Shooting near Jersey City playground

Dozens of police officers and emergency workers are at Montgomery and Florence streets in Jersey City where a shooting has left a pile of blood-soaked snow just about 10 feet from a playground, Jersey Journal reporter Michaelangelo Conte reports from the scene.
It is unknown right now if more than one person was shot and how severe the injuries were.
Two ambulances left the scene about 10 minutes ago and police have taped off the area as they take photographs and investigate.
An officer just called for a biohazard cleanup of the snow so no children play in it.

The playground serves kids in the various buildings of the Montgomery Gardens public housing complex.
Investigators working on the shooting have told police to be on the lookout for a man standing 5 feet, 9 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall wearing work boots, dark pants and a tan jacket with a gray hooded sweatshirt under it.
