From Steve Fulop's quarterly update:
TRAFFIC AND STREET LIGHTS UPDATE Traffic Lights: 2nd & Marin- Waiting for approval and will be on the 2010 funding cycle. 9th & Marin - Currently under design and will be fully operational in late spring, early summer. 10th & Erie - Many people have suggested that this blinking light be changed to a fully functional light due a high number of accidents at this intersection. A traffic survey is now being conducted to determine if the intersection can be converted to a normal signalized intersection. Grand & Barrow - Now fully operational. Montgomery & Warren - Now fully operational. Only the epoxy resin crosswalks remain to be installed. Street lamp update: 4th/Monmouth and 150 Mercer St. - These two areas have been approved for street lights. Fourth and Monmouth is now operational and 150 Mercer will be installed within the next 2 weeks. This will go far to alleviate the darkness (especially with the shorter days of winter on the way) and increase safety. Opening of Greene Street (at the intersection of Washington and 2nd Street) Originally, this complex five-point intersection was the responsibility of the Athena developers, who have since declared bankruptcy. The Division of Engineering is now taking charge of this project, with pedestrian safety and traffic flow in mind. The bidding process begins next week. Once the lowest qualified bidder receives a contract, we are looking at construction of the intersection with an estimated completion time of December or January. The one exception will be paving- which must be done in the warmer weather- and has an estimated completion time of March or April of 2010. Marin and Christopher Columbus Continued emphasis on aesthetics and creating a pedestrian-friendly Jersey City has led the owners and building management of 95 Christopher Columbus (Pershing building located at the SW corner of Marin Blvd)to create a detailed plan to remove the large concrete security barriers along the sidewalk in front of 95 CC Dr. and continuing around the corner along Marin Blvd to Wayne street. These eyesores will be replaced with decorative bollards, which will blend into the environment. This plan passed at the City Council's October 14th meeting. Although a small change, this is an important one in order to create a more aesthetically pleasing environment to residents and visitors entering or exiting the Grove Street PATH station.
