Say couple torched car to collect $
Thursday, September 24, 2009 A Jersey City couple has been arrested on charges they falsely claimed their car was stolen to collect insurance money and then torched the car. "The arrests send a clear message to anyone wanting to commit arson for profit that our arson investigation unit will pursue them and bring them to justice," Fire Director Armando Roman said yesterday. The burned-out 2000 Toyota Avalon was found on St. Paul's Avenue on June 17 and arson investigators spoke to Tiffany A. Spann, 29, of Armstrong Avenue, who had reported it stolen, Roman said. During questioning, Spann admitted that although she reported it stolen, she in fact knew that her boyfriend had the car, Roman said. Spann was arrested on the charge of arson for profit, Roman said, adding that a warrant was issued for the arrest of her boyfriend, Eric Jordon, 31, of Wegman Parkway. Investigators developed tips on Jordon's whereabouts and he was arrested Monday night on Cator Avenue. MICHAELANGELO CONTE
