Bound, beaten, burned in home by 3 in masks
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A 17-year-old Jersey City boy was bound, beaten and burned in a brutal attack during a home invasion yesterday morning, authorities said. The victim told police his assailants got away with just $5. At about 10:30 a.m., three men wearing ski masks broke in through the back door of the residence on Pacific Avenue, near Johnston Avenue, and attacked the teen, who was alone at the time, police said. The men bound the victim with duct tape and pistol-whipped him before burning him with a clothing iron, police said. A woman who rushed to the scene said the teen victim is her nephew and that she spoke with him by cell phone after the attack. By the time she arrived, police were on the scene and the boy had been taken to a hospital by ambulance. "He was asleep when three guys with ski masks kicked in the back door," the woman said outside the home yesterday morning. "They tied him up with duct tape and pistol-whipped him and burned him with an iron. "He sounded hysterical and scared," said the woman, who would not give her name. Major Case Unit Commander Lt. Michael Kelly said last night that evidence recovered at the residence was being processed and that although no arrests had been made, investigators "have some pretty good leads." Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Jersey City Police Department tip line at (201) 547-JAIL. All calls will be kept confidential.
