Where I work, we employ a lot of "gray area" people. They get paid minimum wage, and work their ass off for it. The problem is the boss takes too much from the company. In the end we don't have enough money for payroll often. Sometimes people end up stealing just to make end meet. I am in no way justifying what this guy did, but it shouldn't be a surprise, especially now, that this is going to happen. whatever happened to paying a fair wage and not the minimum you could get away with.

You have to expect this at $23k a year. Plus how did they treat him on a day to day basis ? Still is was wrong.

Hudson County employee is charged with stealing tires from DPW garage

A Jersey City man was charged with stealing tires from the Hudson County Department of Public Works garage where he worked.

Byron Burke, 29, of Jersey City, was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with third degree burglary for stealing eight tires worth more than $500, said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio.

Burke, who earns $23,000 a year and was suspended without pay, has been working at the garage for seven years. He is listed as a gas station attendant, a county spokesman said.

About a month ago another employee noticed that Burke was acting suspiciously and alerted his supervisor. After a month-long investigation by the Hudson County Law Department and Sheriff's Office, Burke was arrested, said Jim Kennelly, a spokesman for Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise.
