The Jersey City Reservoir No. 3 was closed to visitors this past weekend because an insurance policy was canceled, the leader of the Jersey City Reservoir Preservation Alliance said.
"We had to get a new insurance company," said Steve Latham, president of the Alliance. "The (new) insurance was approved by the city's risk management (yesterday) and we should be open this weekend."
The problem stemmed from the group's kayaking program. The company that insured the reservoir dropped the policy, since the Alliance used another insurer for its kayak program. The group's new insurer has OK'd the group's boating insurance arrangement.
Once that was worked out, the new insurer has to be approved by the city. Latham expects official approval of the new policy today.
"We're sorry to disappoint people," Latham said. "Not to place blame, but sometimes it's not easy to get things done when you expect to."
