Robbery at Jersey City card game

Jersey Journal
Monday, April 13, 2009

Two Jersey City men were arrested on charges that included robbery, weapons possession and assault Friday afternoon after invading a card game in a garage on Fulton Avenue, police said.

Daryl Jenkins, 22, of Wegman Parkway, pointed a shotgun at a group of about 15 persons playing cards in the garage as Roderick Edwards, 23, of Armstrong Avenue, pointed a handgun, reports said.

Jenkins and Edwards took a total of $154 from the card players - a combination of the money that was on the table and what the victims had in their pockets, reports said.

Police arrived on the scene at 4:15 p.m., and spotted Jenkins and Edwards running along Kennedy Boulevard. Both men ignored demands to stop and were eventually caught in separate foot chases, police said.

Jenkins and Edwards were both charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and resisting arrest, while Edwards was additionally charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, reports said.

Elijah Clark, 19, of Dwight Street, and David Bowens, 21, of Ocean Avenue, were both arrested on charges of conspiracy in connection with the incident, police said.
