Two men shot; differing accounts of assault
Monday, March 30, 2009 By CHARLES HACK JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
Two men were shot late Saturday night near a deli at Neptune and Ocean avenues, apparently targeted by a man with a semi-automatic weapon, police reports said.
Both men were treated for non-life threatening wounds at the Jersey City Medical Center shortly after the 10:58 p.m. incident, reports said.
One man, a Bartholdi Avenue resident, was shot in the buttocks, reports said. His age was not given. The other victim, a 19-year-old resident of Arlington Avenue, was shot in the right thigh, police said.
The two men gave different accounts of what happened. The man shot in the buttocks said he was standing in front of the deli with friends when he heard several shots fired.
He then ran west along Neptune Avenue toward Old Bergen Road where a stranger picked him up and dropped him off at the Jersey City Medical Center, reports said.
The man shot in the thigh told police he was walking along Ocean Avenue with the other victim when, as they approached Neptune Avenue, a man turned the corner and started firing at them with a semi-automatic weapon, reports said.
Anyone with information should call the Jersey City Police Deparrtment confidential tip line at (201) 547-5245.
