Thursday, March 26, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
Plainclothes Jersey City cops arrested two teenagers Tuesday who were pummeling a 14-year-old student they were trying to rob, reports said.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with robbery, resisting arrest and obstructing a government function, while his alleged accomplice, a 14-year-old boy, was charged with robbery, officials said. Both boys live on Stevens Avenue.
The 14-year-old victim said he was walking home from an after-school program with his brother when they realized a group of boys was following them, reports said.
The group caught up with the brothers at McAdoo Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, where they surrounded the pair and asked them if they had any money or weapons, reports said.
The victim told his brother to run for help as one of the boys struck him in the face with a wooden brush and two boys began punching him in the face, reports said.
That's when the officers spotted the group and jumped out the police car, but they were only able to capture two of the alleged robbers, reports said.
The 15-year-old boy refused to comply with the officers' orders to get on the ground and was tackled after he resisted being handcuffed, reports said.
