Hudson County freeholders may offer to buy 567 Pavonia

The Hudson County freeholders are to vote today on a resolution to make an offer to buy the building where their offices are located. The county has been leasing the 567 Pavonia Ave. building for $1 million a year for the past 17 years.
At Tuesday's caucus, Freeholder Bill O'Dea, who for years has opposed leasing the building, said at $1 million-a-year the county has probably paid most, if not all, of the mortgage on the property owned by developer Joseph Panepinto.
O'Dea said the county should offer $7 million for the building, and that if Panepinto doesn't accept the offer the county should construct its own building at the newly renovated County Plaza, where many county offices are to be located.
