Arrest teen in assault on bus rider
Thursday, March 05, 2009
An 18-year-old Jersey City bus rider was arrested yesterday after he punched out a fellow passenger, reports said.
Jeffrey Charles, 18, of South Street, was charged with aggravated assault, reports said.
Jersey police stationed at Dickinson High School noticed a bus holding up traffic at Palisade Avenue and Washburn Street at 12:45 p.m., reports said.
They saw Charles get off the bus and run toward the school, but continue to shout at someone still on the bus, reports said.
One officer detained Charles, who did not have any identification, reports said.
A 24-year-old bus passenger, who had difficulty talking because his face was swollen, told police that during an argument Charles punched him in the face and then kicked him while he was on the floor the bus, reports said.
With his face covered with cuts and bruises, the victim was rushed to Christ Hospital with a possible broken jaw, reports said.
